Mirrors are a great option because it remains a neutral backdrop and enables you to theme your mantle vignette according to seasons, mood or current color obsession. I'm partial to round, but that's a matter of preference. Pictures on the other hand, can serve well if there is a particular color you would like to carry over in your space.
