Chamber Committee collecting school supplies

School suppliesThe Education Committee is collecting school supplies through August 31 and will distribute them to local schools. Items can be dropped off at the Chamber office. Here are a few ideas:

  • notebooks, paper, binders
  • crayons, pencils, pens, markers, glue sticks
  • hand sanitizers and gently used or new backpacks.

 

Ellmers invites Chamber to D.C.
  
US CapitolThe Smithfield-Selma Chamber will be participating in The Washington Perspective, an issues seminar sponsored by eight North Carolina Congressmen, including Second District Congresswoman Renee Ellmers.

The bi-partisan event will be held on September 12-13 in the Capitol Visitors Center in Washington. Congressional and administration leaders will be speaking. It will also be a great time to network with our Congressmen and Senators.

If you are interested in attending, please see the following flier. The Chamber has a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Capitol at the Smithsonian for the nights of September 11 & 12. Cost for the rooms is $259 per night, double or single occupancy. There is no charge for the seminar.

 

Brightleaf Golf Tournament filling up
Waste IndustriesThe Chamber is working hard to insure that this year's Brightleaf Golf Tournament, presented by Waste Industries, will be one of the best ever. The event will be Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Counry Club of Johnston County. Tee off is at 12:30 pm. The 4-man superball tournament will include prizes to nine teams, door prizes, goodie bag, closest to the pin prizes and many other activities. The Tournament Committee is chaired this year by James Forester of Wells Fargo Advisors.

 

CWBN awards $1,000 scholarship

Gloria Davis CWBM Scholarship 
Gloria Davis (center), an employee of Harbor Inc. is the recipient of the first Chamber Women's Business Network scholarship. Ms. Davis was recognized at the recent CWBN Luncheon featuring speaker Beverly Mahone. Also shown are CWBN members Rosa Andrews, Annette Atkinson, Kerri Christinsen, Carolyn Ennis and Cheryl Oliver.

Apply now for Leadership Johnston

LJ logoThe Chamber is accepting applications through August 31, 2011 for the 2012 class of Leadership Johnston. Set to begin in October, the program provides community leadership development skills training for adults in Johnston County. Day-long sessions are held on the first Wednesday of each month through June.

The Chamber has presented its Visual Improvement Award to Selma's Hampton Inn for extensive landscaping work. The Hampton Inn is located at 1695 Industrial Park Drive. Shown in the picture are hotel representatives and Chamber Ambassadors. Barbara May is the general manager.
