Chamber Committee collecting school supplies
The Education Committee is collecting school supplies through August 31 and will distribute them to local schools. Items can be dropped off at the Chamber office. Here are a few ideas:
- notebooks, paper, binders
- crayons, pencils, pens, markers, glue sticks
- hand sanitizers and gently used or new backpacks.

Ellmers invites Chamber to D.C.
 The Smithfield-Selma Chamber will be participating in The Washington Perspective, an issues seminar sponsored by eight North Carolina Congressmen, including Second District Congresswoman Renee Ellmers.
The bi-partisan event will be held on September 12-13 in the Capitol Visitors Center in Washington. Congressional and administration leaders will be speaking. It will also be a great time to network with our Congressmen and Senators.
If you are interested in attending, please see the following flier. The Chamber has a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Capitol at the Smithsonian for the nights of September 11 & 12. Cost for the rooms is $259 per night, double or single occupancy. There is no charge for the seminar.

Brightleaf Golf Tournament filling up
 The Chamber is working hard to insure that this year's Brightleaf Golf Tournament, presented by Waste Industries, will be one of the best ever. The event will be Friday, August 26, 2011 at the Counry Club of Johnston County. Tee off is at 12:30 pm. The 4-man superball tournament will include prizes to nine teams, door prizes, goodie bag, closest to the pin prizes and many other activities. The Tournament Committee is chaired this year by James Forester of Wells Fargo Advisors.
