Greetings!
Welcome Spring! Although this Winter was a mild one, it is still nice to see all the flowers that are blooming.
The Chamber is gearing up for our visitors' season. Coming off our very successful Health & Wellness Expo in April, Chairs Clif Brown and Doreen Guma and their committee should be very proud. The new festival the 'Boater's Maritime' is May 12 &13th and the Chamber is participating in sponsoring a clam shucking and eating contest as well as being supportive of the organization of this great new event. We will then move into full steam ahead with our June 16th 4th annual Green Fest, chaired by Jolie Powell and Melissa Petsco, a dynamic duo!

OUR POSITION ON TOB PARKING FEES | |
Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce Position on the newly passed Town of Brookhaven Parking Fees:
The Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce strongly opposes the newly implemented Town of Brookhaven Parking Lot Fee for Town Residents and urgently requests that said Fee be rescinded.
This new Fee has a negative impact upon residents, local businesses and visitors alike. The Chamber is most interested in rescinding the Fee as it adversely affects the economic life of Port Jefferson Village; specifically, as it relates to the Port Jefferson Marina Parking Lot that is contiguous to the business, service and professional area of Port Jefferson, which includes shops, restaurants, small businesses, the Bridgeport-Port Jefferson Ferry, and several party fishing boats.
The economic life of Port Jefferson currently competes with adjoining areas that offer free parking, e.g. Smithhaven Mall. The imposition of this new Fee imposes a major psychological and an additional financial obstacle to enticing Town of Brookhaven residents as visitors and customers to our Village's Main Street. There are also concerns about the logistics of residents obtaining these new stickers. The announced plan makes the process arduous and time consuming for our residents.
As well, the implementation of this new Fee is anticipated to present serious logistical difficulties and traffic concerns at the entrance to the Port Jefferson Marina Lot and New York State Route 25A during the season when this geographical area is already congested with local, tourist, and ferry traffic.
Such obstacles adversely impact the very businesses upon which the Town of Brookhaven relies for sales tax revenue. At a time when our regional Main Street economies continue to struggle, on behalf of our 220 business members, the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce requests that the Town of Brookhaven Parking Lot Fee be rescinded.

HEALTH & WELLNESS EXPO | |
Sunny skies and warm temperatures brought hundreds of attendees to visit the Chamber's 2012 Expo. With 45 vendors and 62 tables the Earl L. Vandermeulen High School gymnasium was full with exhibitors. There were free health screenings and a children's corner that included a 50 foot inflatable 'kidi-pillar,'Live cooking, and exercise demos. Admission was FREE with plenty of parking. Many thanks to our sponsors and the Port Jefferson Union Free School District. The H&W committee chaired by Clif Brown and Doreen Guma all did an excellent job, another successful Chamber event. |

Chamber of Commerce Members Clinic
The Professional Staff at Willow Creek Golf & Country Club is dedicated to the development & growth of the game of golf. This clinic/exhibition will be designed to address all skill levels while covering all of the basics. Grip, stance, posture, alignment, and ball position will be the focus, along with advanced tips for identifying "your" correct pre-shot routine. The professionals leading the clinic will be PGA Head Professional Larry Scortichini, Director of Golf Wes Matheny, and Assistant Professional Ron Meredith. Each Professional will demonstrate their swing and routine while discussing their swing thoughts. We will then spend time with each participant and address all individual needs.
