LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings!

Happy Fall, leaves falling, cooling temperatures and always things going on with the Chamber.  We are enjoying the warm glow of success from our just completed "A Taste of Port Jefferson" and moving forward with our Santa Parade and Dickens House Tour.  The Chamber is gearing up for the holiday season and remains open seven days a week.  Please refer to our website calendar for current events and things happening in the Village- www.portjeffchamber.com.

The Board of Directors approved with regret, the need to increase the membership dues effective December 1st.  In these challenging times our ability to offset our operating expenses has been dramatically reduced, but we have continued and even expanded our full time support services that benefit our business partners.  The good news is that if you take advantage of the "Early Bird" membership renewal you may keep the dues rates of 2011.  We are trying to consider budgetary needs of our members and be fair.

The future remains strong at 118 West Broadway.  We continue to review our costs of operations and make sure that our members get the most value for their membership dues.  New ideas are implemented to help promote our business community and we stay diligent to our mission statement, "dedicated to establishing and maintaining ourselves as an advocate, voice, and recourse for the businesses in our community."

Best regards,

Suzanne Velazquez

PJCC-President

Ribbon Cutting

On August 18th the Chamber welcomed 'Yogo Delish' at 211 Main Street in Port Jefferson.  Austin Ahmahi and his family hosted their ribbon cutting with all the yogurt you could eat and wine!  Mayor Margot Garant presided, with the Chamber Directors, friends and family.  Congratulations Austin and we can't wait for your soups and salads in the winter.

American Music Festival

With predicted inclement weather, the American Music Festival carried on.  Although the festival missed the rains that were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday some stages were moved to alternate locations, but the shows went on!  The only concert that was postponed to Spring of 2012 was Gary US Bonds who originally was performing for Friday night.  That decision paid off because the skies DID open up that evening which would have been a great disappointment to the sponsors of that performance. The kids zone and carnival rides were busy during the day and well into the evening.

Country Dance

The Chamber's fundraiser 'Country Dance' had a low attendance, but those who attended had a great time.  Thanks to Hurricane Wings and Tommy's Place for supplying the "grub."  The band was sponsored by Matty T's of Deer Park.   The Port Jefferson Lions also partnered with the Chamber and sponsored a wheel of fortune.  Tommy's Place did a cash bar where designer country drinks had been created!  There was instructional line dancing and the first 100 attendees received a FREE cowboy hat!

A TASTE OF PORT JEFFERSON

On October 22nd the fourth annual International "A Taste of Port Jefferson" event went off without a hitch!  With over 30 food and beverage vendors the Taste was a huge success.  This year's attendees increased by 25% over last year.  The weather was a perfect sunny Fall day.

Melissa Petsco the event chair, once AGAIN gets accolades for producing this Chamber fundraiser.  She had been organizing the event since June.  The selection of food ran the full spectrum from Americana, Japanese, Italian, and Caribbean to name a few.    Desserts were overflowing with fresh fruit, bakery items, cupcakes and even smoothies.  Oh, and don't forget the wine...lots with Mora's Fine Wines bringing in 9 tables of wine vendors. Don't forget our new micro-brewery serving novel beer and ale.

Thank you to our sponsors: Times-Beacon Record, New Bridge Realty, Ladybug Marketing, Petsco Contracting, Setauket Yacht Club, Citizens Bank, Edible Arrangements, Miller Marine Services and Bethpage Bank.
