LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT |
Greetings!
Hello Chamber Partners,
Welcome spring finally. The Chamber is gearing up for the busy high season here in the Village. With fresh exterior paint, new oak floors, and a new computer the Chamber office is prepared to meet the season head-on.
The Board of Directors and Staff continue to provide member benefits that are first rate. Professional speakers at our general membership meetings, updates of Village events, well organized and popular sponsored events and a professional full time staff serving the visitors and residents here in the community to name just a few services.
Our membership is strong and we welcome new business member partners every month. We are always exploring new ways to partner and capitalize with other organizations here in the Village that will benefit our members.
Please mark your calendars for our Green Fest scheduled for June 11th. It will be at the PortJeffersonVillageCenter all day featuring eco-environmentally friendly vendors. And to look to the future, the Chamber will be represented in the 4th of July Parade, 'Old Home Week' in August and the American Music Festival in September.
Best regards,
Suzanne Velazquez

and two baby grand pianos for diners' musical entertainment! In addition, in the near future bringing back a full Sunday Brunch!
Who's That Lady?
Oh and who is that attractive lady volunteering on Sundays at the chamber office with the initials KT? One of our directors has generously volunteered to help the Chamber out, our own Karen Tucci, many thanks! |
HEALTH & WELLNESS EXPO | |
2nd Annual Event a Success!
April 16th marked the second annual H&W Expo. 300 attendees walked through the Port Jefferson Village Center where they were met with over 100 doctors, health care providers and business entrepreneurs, making a nice, large crowd of individuals who wanted to improve their health. There were free health screenings and free presentations. Opened free to the public from 11-4:00 pm there was a constant level of energy through-out the building. 41 exhibitors shared their knowledge with the public and many new contacts were made. New this year was our kids' corner where the PJ Library had craft activities for children and St. Charles Hospital sponsored healthy snacks for children and they were able to create their own yogurt sundaes. Interactive demonstrations in Seated Tai Chi, yoga, cooking, and rhythmic drumming were some of the new highlights as well. With three gold sponsors and five bronze this year's Expo received excellent exposure in all media fronts. A very special thank you to Clif Brown and Doreen Guma and our committee, who worked tirelessly to produce this very successful event.

EASTER PARADE & EGG HUNT | |
A Perfect Day!
Well Easter Sunday was the warmest day on record so far for 2011-hence a perfect day for a parade and Easter Egg Hunt. Friends and Directors of the Chamber started to hide the eggs at 10:30 am down at the Harborfront Park in the Village of Port Jefferson. A warm thanks to Karen Tucci, Egg Sheriff and Magician Shelly Katz, Denise Larose, Sarah Brand and her mom Marge, and Michael Beck. Easter Bunnies Barbara Ransome and Joanne Cornell lead the parade at noon starting by Theatre Three. With over 200 walking participants behind them they walked to the park to hand out chocolate treats and candy. Joining the crowd down at the park was another estimate of 200 people, where 2000 eggs were hunted down for their inside treasures! The last of all the photo opportunities finished a little bit after 1:00 pm on a glorious sunny afternoon.

OFFICE UPDATES | |
The Chamber Office Staff has been very busy these past few months. Of course with the change of weather and spring finally here our foot traffic has increased. With our real high season approaching the Chamber Board agreed to move ahead with a very large capital improvement which had been placed on the back burner for a number of years. All the old carpeting was removed and replace with inch pre-finished oak floors. The office has never looked so nice! In addition with the grant money we received from the Brookhaven Chambers of Commerce Coalition the Chamber was able to purchase a new computer with a much faster core processor and 8 megabyte memory. All was coordinated together so that there would be minimal down time for the office. During that time the chamber grounds were given also a spring cleaning and planting of pansies. The chamber outside painting project will also be completed this spring. Our membership renewals have gone well with current membership up to 190. The office was busy with the organizing of the Health & Wellness Expo and is currently working towards the Green Fest for June 11th. In cooperation with the PJ Village the Chamber will be partnering in the joint application for Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Grant-Round 10. Our hopes are to put in for 4 free standing kiosks as outdoor bulletin boards. And we continue our application process in placing the Chamber building on the historic State and Federal list of historic sites. |
