Hey did you see who's dogs won best costume for the

Harvest Festival doggie parade?  Our very own business partner from chase bank, Meredith Festa!

Congratulations to our own Joey "Z" of Z-Pita Restaurant for being recognized for 13 years of having a successful business. He received a plaque of recognition at our Taste of Port Jefferson and we all cheered!

Our local celebrity handsome hog Oscar has graciously agreed to make himself available for photos opps at this year's Dickens Festival...stay tune.

Our warmest wishes for a speedy recovery for our favorite Tall Person-Bill Monahan of Mr. Sign!

Who had the zany scarecrow with the blond "wig" sporting realtor signs?  One of our business partner's...Jolie Powell Realtor...too cute!
TASTE OF PORT JEFF

A Taste of Port Jefferson gets Three Stars!

Food critics and foodies agree the Taste of Port Jefferson gets three stars for excellence! On October 16th the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce held its 3rd Annual International A Taste of Port Jefferson.  Despite strong winds, the Port Jefferson Village Center was a buzz with restaurant, dessert, wine and beer vendors.  300 attendees enjoyed sampling and drinking from our many local businesses.  Participants had access to all floors and were able to move freely to enjoy all the tasty treats.  From fresh local shellfish, to enticing harvest soups, there were salads, pastas,

pastries and literally something for everyone's pallet.

The easy flow of the afternoon created an atmosphere that tempted guests to go back for more food for four continuous hours the event ran.  At 3:30 raffles were pulled for the 20 gift baskets that were donated by our local businesses, winners were all present.  Legislative Vivian Viloria-Fisher was on hand to read a proclamation honoring Joey Zangrillo owner of Z-Pita's a restaurant on Main Street in Port Jefferson for being in business 13 years.

In the background, there was a string quartet from Stony Brook University playing classical music and special guest chef Penn Hongthong was signing her Laotian cookbook on the third floor.

The Village Center lay-out made for a very successful event and their personnel could not have been more helpful in the organizing of tables and helping with the logistics.

Melissa Petsco the Taste's Chair and the chamber volunteers hard work all paid off.  Many thanks to all who helped and stayed to make this event a real winner. All profit goes towards the operations of the Chamber.  For sure this event is a keeper and we will all look forward to it next year!

HARVEST FESTIVAL
First Annual Harvest Festival

In cooperation and support the Economic Development Council sponsored the first Harvest Festival October 23rd with the Chamber sponsoring the "scarecrow walk" on East Main Street.  The weather could not have been nicer, warm and breezy.  The attendance in the Village was upwards of 6,000 visitors reported from our Village Code.  The costume dog parade had at least 75 dogs participating in wonderful Halloween attire and paraded down East main Street up Main and back around. There was chowder contests, movies at the Village Center, face painting at the Library and much more.  At successful first time event which we hope continues to next year!
OFFICE UPDATES

The position of Director of Operations for the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce has been filled by Barbara Ransome. A resident in the Village since the 80's and having a long standing relationship with the Chamber she brings a wealth of leadership experience and invaluable relationships to the position.  In addition, we welcome Carol Eastman a senior volunteer who will be covering the hours at the office on Saturday.  Carol had helped us out in the past and we are thrilled she is back on part-time regular bases.  Also on staff for Sunday hours now is Chaz Powell who will cover the office from noon-4:00pm. A competent young man who is familiar with the Chamber's operations.  Our weekend coverage will remain until the end of December and then closing down from January to March.
