Famous Eagle Scout Quote "One of the proudest moments of my life came in the Court of Honor when I was awarded the Eagle Scout badge. I still have that badge. It is a treasured possession. I am the first Eagle Scout Vice President. The three great principles which Scouting provides-self-discipline, teamwork, and moral and patriotic values-are the basic building blocks of leadership. I applaud the Scouting program for continuing to emphasize them. I am confident that your ability to bring ideals, values, and leadership training to millions of our young people will help to bring about a new era-a time in which not only our Republic will progress in peace and freedom, but a time in which the entire world shall be secure, and all its people free."

 Camping News
Avondale Society
Update from the Avondale Scout Reservation
The herbicide that was sprayed on the dams with the new sprayer purchased by the Avondale Society is taking effect already. We will have to herbicide again in a week or two once more of the foliage has dropped. Luckily, we have received a donation of herbicide last week. This will allow us to spray the dams one more time. Our goal is to keep our dams free of anything except grass. We have our work cut out for us but thanks to the Avondale Society and our new sprayer, our goal will be attainable much quicker.
Thanks again for your continued support,
The ASR Staff

___________________________________________ Chappepeela District WELCOME to the CHAPPEPEELA DISTRICT all of our newly recruited Scouts, Leaders, and Parents. Round-Ups for our Packs are going stronger than ever. I predict by the end of September we will have recruited more members than in 2010 and by October they will fully enjoy the Scouting Program that we all love so much. And now we must focus on training our current and new leaders. Training is paramount to the success of a unit and retaining our Scouts. In addition it is a standard for each units Journey to Excellence award. To meet this need our District will host two training opportunities in October. Both trainings will be held at Little River Pentecostal Church, 11005 Highway 442 West, Tickfaw, LA. Registration forms will be emailed to leaders. For more information about training contact Mr. Lee Gardiner at (985)507-4066 or email lgardiner@louisianamachinery.com. 1) Cub Scout/Boy Scout - Leader Specific Training Saturday, October 1, 2011 from 7:30a - 1:00p 2) Cub Scout BALOO/Boy Scout Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills October 14 - 15, 2011. Friday 7:00pm - Saturday at 3:00pm In addition to the leader training areas of Tot-n-Chit, Whittling-n-Chit, and Fire-n-Chit will be earned for leaders to better their instruction to Scouts. The Product Sales Campaign including Popcorn and Saints/LSU products is well underway. Units have begun working towards raising money for their Scouts and Units to have a very, very productive year in Scouting. Lets help our Scouts earn their way and save money for our leaders and parents. Historically many of our youth earn enough to pay for their full year of Scouting including Day Camp.
