Alert! Excessive summer heat means extra watering requirements!

General Watering Tips:

Follow instructions below also keeping in mind very hot, dry times when more watering may be needed or very cool, wet times when less watering may be needed. It is very important not to over water plants and drown root systems. You can always call us in the office anytime for questions!

Shrubs- One inch of water per week for the first season. Place water at base of shrub and count to "5 Mississippi" for a good estimate. Always check soil with finger before watering to make sure you will not be over watering.

Spruce Trees- One inch of water every two weeks for the first season. Place water at base of shrub and count to "5 Mississippi" for a good estimate. Always check soil with finger before watering to make sure you will not be over watering.

Deciduous Trees- Water with a pinky width trickle for 45 minutes at the base of the plant once per week for the first season. Always check soil with finger before watering to make sure you will not be over watering.

Q & A Ask the landscaper

Q: Do I need to water more in extreme heat?

A: In extreme heat, extreme watering measures must be taken. Newly planted shrubs, perennials and decorative grasses require a "5 Mississippi" watering once daily in the evening or morning hours. Some annual plantings may require daily watering both in the morning and evening. Turf grass should be watered differently than plantings. Spring seeded or sodded lawns may show some signs of browning. However, lawns are not dead but have most likely gone dormant. Watering for turf grass must be done in the morning every day. Water grass for 20 minutes per zone if irrigated or 30-40 minutes if hand watered for similar coverage.
