Back to School Basics
Back to SchoolFamilies are invited to attend JDRF's 4th Annual Back to School Basics Event on Thursday, August 5th from 5:00 - 7:00pm at the Mahlon Adams Pavilion at  Freedom Park. Parents will learn important information about diabetes management in the school setting while kids enjoy games and activities in the park. We will even have a discussion about transitioning to college, so teenagers and their parents are also encouraged to attend.

Vendors representing diabetes pump, meter and insulin companies will be available to visit with before and after the presentation.  For more information, click here.

New Website Launch - Team JDRF
Team JDRF
JDRF has just launched a new website to help individuals fundraise to find a cure for diabetes. A Team JDRF Event is a way for anyone and everyone to make a difference in the fight against type 1 diabetes. Whether it's a walk, a bowl-a-thon, a lemonade stand, or whatever you dream up, Team JDRF Events pair our families' passions for the cure with grass-roots fundraising. On the Team JDRF     website you will find ideas, best practices, printable materials- everything you need to be successful. Visit www.jdrf.org/teamjdrf to learn more about it!
Dancing with the Stars
Ever wished you could dance like the celebrities on Dancing With The Stars?  Want to learn how for free and benefit JDRF? We're looking for five or six couples to compete in a Dancing With The Stars event at the JDRF Benefit Kick-off Gala at The Club At Westport in Denver, NC on July 23.  Free dance lessons will be provided at The Club location in Denver or at our Cornelius location just off I-77 in the weeks leading up to the event.  The dance routines will be simple and you'll compete against other couples dancing for the first time.  Audience members will pay to vote for their favorite couples with the proceeds going to JDRF.  It won't be serious, just fun.  The offer is open to JDRF board members, staff and volunteers. Come on out, have some fun for your favorite cause and learn some fancy footwork to dazzle 'em at the next wedding or Christmas party.

Time is short, so don't delay.  To sign up, contact Havana Banquet and Ballroom ASAP at (704) 892-7000.

Let's Get Personal, A Note From Nancy Busch
It's hard to believe that summer is in full force and before we know it we will be back into the swing of school again. Getting ready for school means making sure that your 504 plan is up to date, meeting with the school nurse (if you have one), and talking with new teachers and faculty about diabetes and what your child can and cannot do. If you are new to diabetes or if you are looking for advice about how to manage your child's diabetes at school, I encourage you to attend the "Back to School Basics" Meeting on August 5th at Freedom Park. It always helps to talk to other parents and share ideas.

Enjoy the rest of your summer. Stay cool and we hope to see you at a JDRF Outreach event in the near future!

Sincerely,
Nancy Busch
