A Message from
Pastor Paul

I wanted to invite you to participate in three activities:

1. This Sunday, October 3, we will begin the Adult Forum in the sanctuary from 10:15 to 11:00.  This Sunday's agenda will be an attempt to match topics you want to discuss with topics that I'm able to discuss.  Please come and suggest subjects that are of interest to you.  Later I will publish a discussion schedule with dates and topics.

2.  Also this Sunday I will be officially installed as Intentional Interim Pastor at Christ the King. Following the service, there will be a light reception.  The choir will sing; Lukus Wells will perform.  Please come and participate in this official act of installation.

3. In future eNewsletters from Christ the King, I will respond to questions that you submitted to "Ask the Pastor."  James Gonda asked what I thought of doing this, and I said it was a great idea.  In this email, James will provide instructions on how to submit your questions.  If we receive some questions in the next several days, I'll begin with answers next Friday.  FYI - I tend to give answers that are influenced by Biblical insights and framed by Lutheran theology, centered in the gospel of Jesus Christ.  As I answer your questions, I will share what I know and will research the topic(s) as time and resources allow.  Sometimes I will respond with, "I don't know."   Sometimes I will respond with an ambivalent answer, such as, "It may be this or it may be that."  With every question, I will try to give an answer that is brief and informative, sometimes humorous, sometimes inspirational. I might even answer with a very short story.

Reserve Your Seats!

For the upcoming Pot Luck/Talent Show on Thursday, October 14, please give us the number of people in your party so we may provide enough chairs and tables.

To list the number in your party, please see the clipboard on the table in the Entrance Hall.   We do not need your name - just a number. If you want to bring a dish to pass, there's still room on the form for that too!

Submit Your Questions Today
to "Ask the Pastor"

Questions on ANY religious, spiritual, or biblical topic should be sent to James Gonda, eNewsletter Editor, at jamesgonda63@yahoo.com.  Please put the phrase "Ask the Pastor" in your subject line. All questions will be compiled and sent to Pastor Paul.  Remember, there are NO dumb questions, taboo subjects, or sacred cows.  So ask away!
Time to Unwrap Your Gifts . . . At the Gifts Discovery Workshop!

Did you know God has made you a unique, unrepeatable individual, by giving you a special assortment of gifts?  For five Tuesday nights - October 12 to  November16, from 7 to 9 PM - the Gifts Discovery Workshop will help you identify your God-given gifts, and offer a head start in deciding how to share those gifts!  There's no charge for the workshop; it's appropriate for both adults and students.  Come join us as we "unwrap" some great gifts!  Register by phone (729-2688) or e-mail (office@ctkvestal.org)

"Sermon Blurbs" for October

Oct. 3 "WHO'S IN CHARGE?"

Previously Jesus had told the disciples a parable in which the master served the servants. The parable in Luke 17:5-10 is a correction to any misunderstanding that Jesus' followers might have.

Oct. 10 "THANKS BE TO GOD"

One out of ten of the cleansed lepers thanks to Jesus in Luke 17:11-19. Is ten percent the norm for human thanksgiving?

Oct. 17 "NAGGING PRAYER"

In Luke 18:1-8 Jesus presents a nagging woman as a role model for the prayer of disciples. What does this model tell us about our own prayer life and the God who hears our prayers?

Oct. 24 "RECEIVING RIGHTEOUSNESS"

In Luke 18:9-14, the parable of the tax collector and the Pharisee demonstrates that righteousness is not something achieved; rather, it is something received.

Oct. 31 "LUTHER AT WARTBURG"

Impersonators of historical persons are popular. Today an impersonator of Martin Luther tells about his stay at Wartburg Castle. The Gospel for Reformation Day is John 8:31-36.
