Stained Glass WindowA Message from Pastor Paul

In the near future, I look forward to beginning holy conversations with you.  By conversations I mean a dialog rather than a duelog.  In conversations, all participants speak and listen.  And it's often better to listen before speaking.  In conversations, listening is open-minded and seeks understanding.  The speaking is shared information, ideas, observations, thoughts, and feelings.  I've never heard anyone boast, "I won that conversation!"

On the other hand, I've heard too often, "I won that argument!"  Arguments are duelogs.  Each speaker shoots words at the other in an attempt to put the other down, to defeat him or her.  In duelogs, listening is used to solely identify where the other person is vulnerable so the next volley of words can be fired at the point of vulnerability.

We shall engage in holy conversations because we are people whom the Holy Spirit has called by the gospel of Christ Jesus.  The Holy Spirit has also enlightened us with the gifts of God.  We can dialog with one another because we are all adopted into God's own family.  Each one of us has insights and understandings of life that are worth sharing and worth being heard.

Furthermore, our conversations are holy because both our speaking and our listening - which too often are less than perfect - are forgiven by God for Christ's sake.  Ah, forgiveness for Christ's sake - it liberates us to pursue what was truly meant by the other person rather than simply taking what was heard as the intended meaning.  Oh, the joy of it all!

GO GREEN
ON  RALLY DAY!

On Sunday, September 12 at 11 AM, the Education Wing will be filled with worms, garbage and . . . food (yuck!).   Come launch our year-long theme of GO GREEN: Being Stewards of God's Creation.

The Discovery Center will host a hands-on Wiggly Worms demonstration.  And start coloring! We'll collect "My Weather" art pictures eligible to appear on WETM/Channel 34.   Play the "Recycling vs. Garbage" game, then we'll eat!  Please remember:  hand out the invitations you received in the mail.  If you need more invites, they are available at the Welcome Station.  So bring a friend and earn Bible Bucks!

Also, please remember to bring a recyclable item for our classroom sculpture.  Questions?  Ideas?  Wanna play with worms?  Contact Julie Sifert @ 785-3697 or jsifert@stny.rr.com.

 CTK Talent Show
 & Potluck Dinner

You can help stop world hunger by joining us on Thursday, October 14, for a talent show and potluck dinner.  If every member of ECLA attended one potluck dinner and donated $1, we would raise $4.6 million for world hunger!  For the show, you can sign up as a family act or an individual.  Our own Jim Ford will offer his keyboard skills, if needed for accompaniment.

The sign up sheet in the entrance hall will give us a loose idea of how many folks plan to come and/or perform.  Doors open at 5:30.  Dinner starts at 6 and performances begin at 6:15.
Questions?  Bright ideas?  Contact Julie Sifert @ 785-3697 or jsifert@stny.rr.com.
