From Cathy Gould,
Church Deacon
With the imminent arrival of our Intentional Interim Pastor, Paul Schwartzkopf , Church Council wanted to remind everyone what his duties will be. To quote Pastor Mark, "We need to find out who we, the Church Family of Christ the King, without the Ridleys." For the most part, the duties of an Interim Pastor are those of a called Pastor:
· To lead worship and to preach
· To offer pastoral care
· To carry out administrative work, including the supervision of our church staff
· To support the various programs and committees of the congregation
In addition - and as the job title implies - an Interim Pastor leads a congregation during the transition time after the installed pastor has departed. This temporary person fills the leadership gap. He also helps the congregation prepare for the process of welcoming a newly-installed pastor. Moreover, Interim Pastors understand and appreciate the emotional dynamics of a congregation in transition, from grief, loss, and anger, to relief and hope. Finally, the Interim pastor should facilitate excitement for the new Pastor. Please remember: an Interim Pastor cannot become the called pastor.
With the arrival of Pastor Paul on September 1, the Transition Team will launch its search for a permanent pastor, someone who is a good match for Christ the King, and vice versa. Pastor Paul will work very closely with the Transition Team on this effort. So in the next couple of months, a lot will be happening! Watch the bulletin board in the foyer for updates on our progress. Without a doubt, this is an exciting time for our church!
