From Kyle Barnes Council President
It is conventional wisdom that in the summer church attendance declines. That's certainly been the case this summer at Christ the King. Some people believe that attendance also declines during a period of pastoral vacancy. Whatever the reason, lower attendance has also meant that giving has declined as well - and that's a problem. Eric Donaldson, our Church Treasurer, recently presented to Council some figures that are easy to understand. We need to take in $4545 a week to meet our budget Year-to-date giving has amounted to only $4250; recent weeks closer to half that. Our expenses for the first half of the year have been $5828 per week. Council is working to address this. (Having a pastoral vacancy and all staff working part time should fix this.) To "catch up" by year end, we need giving to increase to $4840 per week. If you're coming to church less frequently this summer, try to remember to "catch up" your giving for the weeks you're not here. The building remains open, staffed and Christ the King is meeting the spiritual needs of your church family. Also, consider enrolling in "Simply Giving," a free money transfer service that will send your weekly/monthly contributions to the church whether or not you attend. That's easier for many people than remembering which Sundays we've been at church and how many we've missed. Our faith community at Christ the King is something we love, appreciate and value. Let's make sure we're all doing our part to keep it functioning the way it must to meet its mission.
