From Pastors Nadine and Mark
We pastors attended our last Church Council meeting last night, and we were surprised to be treated to a catered supper from the Olive Garden. Council also presented us with a shadow box filled with memorabilia representing high points of our work together. You should see it! Going into this time of transition, Christ The King is truly fortunate to have such a capable, dedicated Church Council at the helm. These folks "get it"; they understand how congregations work and what churches need to do to fulfill their God-given mission. They're great! To date, our Upstate NY Synod hasn't found an Interim Pastor to take the baton from us as we leave. The Synod may yet come through, but, rather than simply waiting, Council has decided do a little looking themselves. Over the next week or so, Council members will be calling our "ecumenical partners" (denominations that are in "full communion" with the ELCA) to see if there are Presbyterian, Episcopal or United Church of Christ clergy who might be able to serve as your Interim Pastor; at the same time, they'll check with the several national networks of Interim Pastors to see who might be available. In short order, Council should have a pretty good idea of whether or not a living, breathing Interim Pastor is actually going to be found. If not, Council is prepared to move directly into the process of calling a settled Pastor for Christ The King. For what it's worth, the two of us believe that a well-executed transition period, under the leadership of a trained and experienced Interim Pastor, can be very helpful for a congregation, especially after a long pastorate. But we also believe that a long vacancy period, without any pastoral leadership at all, can be very destructive. If an Interim Pastor can be found, great. But if not, we agree that moving ahead with the call process for a new settled Pastor is the right way to go. Please keep Church Council, the Transition Team and the Synod in your prayers in the weeks and months ahead! Love, Mark and Nadine |

More Media Ministry Training This Sunday
More people -- especially those who attend the 11:15 service -- are needed to operate our media equipment during worship. The job of Media Minister is an important
one, but it's easier than you probably think.
Pastor Mark
is holding another training session for potential Media Ministers this
Sunday,
June 13, after the 11:15 service.
Please
consider coming to the training session this Sunday! |
Coffee Hour for the Ridleys This Sunday
This Sunday, June 13th,
there will be a special Coffee Hour, between services, to honor Pastors Nadine and Mark. It will take place in our CTK Cafe, and all are invited.
Don't forget the other big farewell event being hosted by our Transition Team: the Celebration Dinner at 1 PM on Sunday, June 27, at the Polish Community Center, 347 Prospect Street, Binghamton.
This Sunday is the last day to purchase tickets for the Celebration Dinner. |
Children/Youth Worship on June 20 The
children of Jesus and Friendsand our CTK youth
are taking over the worship services on Father's Day, June 20! They're
working hard on special music and drama for the services at 9:00 and
11:15, and they'll take other leadership roles in the services as well.
The
Junior and Senior High youth are preparing a special skit for June 20,
and they need more practice time than the Education Hour allows, so
they're meeting at CTK from 6 to 8 PM this Sunday. Contact Angie Roux (aroux@ctkvestal.org or 624-0305) if
you need help with transportation.
A Note for Work Campers: We're planning to do this same
skit for the talent show at Work Camp, so come join us and pick out a
part! |
