Did you know that Scouts that attend summer camp are 80% more likely to stay involved in the Scouting program than those that don't?
That's why we all work so hard to make every camp experience - whether it's a District Camporee or a week of Boy Scout Resident Camp at Woodruff Scout Reservation - the best experience it can possibly be. That's why this year we partnered with AT&T to make sure our Woodruff and Bert Adams camps have great cell phone connectivity.
For years, leaders have been asking for better cell reception to stay in touch with family and business. More and more of our leaders were even forced with the tough decision to attend camp or remain connected to work and home. Now they can do both.
But that's not the most important reason for this new investment.
Our main goal in maximizing connectivity is so that no matter where a Scout or leader is on our camp properties they can reach emergency services. Reliable communication is essential to Scout safety, especially in an emergency where response time is critical.
Last year, more than 8,775 Scouts attended Day or Resident camps. 2011 was actually a record setting year with more than 10,000 people camping at Woodruff and Bert Adams. 2012 is already shaping up to be even bigger and better.
If you or your Scout is going to camp this year, mark your calendars for Saturday May 19. The Atlanta Area Scout Shop is hosting a Get Ready For Camp! event and you don't want to miss out.
At 10:00 a.m. at the Volunteer Service Center, professional Scouters, camping experts, and other volunteers will be on hand to answer any questions about camp and to demonstrate the newest and coolest camping gear.
We're ready and excited for camp season. We hope you'll join us in fulfilling the promise we make to all Scouts - that they'll find fun and adventure in the great outdoors. |
