Volunteer Spotlight Scott Sorrels 
The Atlanta Area Council is pleased to share that Scott Sorrels will be presented with the Silver Buffalo Award by the National Council, Boy Scouts of America. This is the highest award the BSA bestows upon volunteers and community citizens. The presentation will be at the closing banquet of the National Annual Meeting on Friday, May 27, 2011, in San Diego, CA. The Silver Buffalo Award, for distinguished service to youth, was created in 1925 to be awarded to those persons who give noteworthy and extraordinary service to youth. This award is Scouting's highest commendation of the invaluable contributions that outstanding Americans make to youth. |

National Tour
Plan Updates
The National BSA has announced that effective March 1, 2011, what are currently known as local and national tour permits will be superseded by what will be called the tour plan. The online tour permit system will be suspended. The Tour plan will be approved by the local council and will be used for all BSA tours regardless of the distance or length of the tour. Spring is finally here and its sunny skies and warmer weather mark the perfect opportunity to visit the Zoo. This year the are special programs for Scout units to enjoy.
On April 16, the new Komodo Dragon Encounter is open to Scouts. This adventure will take you behind the scenes and get you up close and personal while you visit and feed the animals.
On April 30, Scouts can participate in the Scout Badge Workshop. Scouts can have a wild time exploring the Zoo, while you meet meet education animal ambassadors and work towards earning Belt Loops, Activity Badges or Merit Badges. Also, there are opportunities for Group Night Crawlers throughout the summer. Be sure to check out all the programs at the Zoo!

Scout Day at the Braves (Apr 10) Kick off the 2011-2012 season with the Braves on April 10 as they take on the Philadelphia Phillies. All Scouts in uniform will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-game parade around the field. Tickets are available now in the Program Center!

Camp
Campmaster Corps Looking for Scouters If you're a veteran Scouter with outdoor training and skills, and not currently a unit leader, consider volunteering for the Council Campmaster Corps. Campmasters reside in the Campmaster cabins at Bert Adams and Woodruff on the weekends providing commissioner type service and program support to the new camping units. They also support and assist camp rangers.
Training for new Campmasters will be held soon at the Volunteer Service Center. If you're interested in joining this special group of Scouters, then contact Tim Aumann at 770-653-8199. Summer Camp Countdown

Boy Scouts 
NYLT
National Youth Leadership Training will bring new skills and greater enthusiasm to your youth leadership. Scouting recognizes that Unit Leaders have the primary responsibility for training their youth leaders. The purpose of NYLT is not to assume that role, but rather to support it. This week-long course features instruction in skills that can be used at home, at school, on the job, and in particular, at the Scout unit level.
Three Course Dates: May 29 - 11am - June 3, 9:30pm at Camp Jamison, BASR
June 5 -11am - June 10, 9:30pm at Camp Jamison, BASR (COED option)
Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites
Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites has joined efforts with the Boy Scouts of America to help Scouts continue to accomplish great things. The State Parks can help get Scouts started and on their way to a great service project! The parks offer a variety of projects - from trail maintenance to invasive plant removal to general cleanups and river cleanups and they need Scouting's help!
