Who Am I?

My place of birth is:
Clare, Michigan

My hobbies are:
Interior Decorating and Design.  Designing Monkey Koko Scarves while watching football.  I love football and basketball!

The last good book I read was:
Bright Lights, Big Ass by Jennifer Lancaster

My oddest habit is:
The inability to go to bed if the kitchen counter isn't clean and in place.

Device I couldn't live without:
Cell

My greatest accomplishment outside my profession:
Close relationship with all my children.

The reason I got into advertising/marketing:
It fit who I am and was love at first sight (class).

Biggest influences on me professionally:
Jim Findlay for leadership and people management, my father Wallace for personal and work ethics, and Dr. Susan Weeks for teaching me "no one has to go to the back of the bus".

My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:
Owning my own business and helping others with my success.

When nobody's looking, I like to:
Dance

The one thing I really want the world to know about me:
I am a very giving person with a combination personality of Charles Barkley and LeAnn Toughy.

Best thing about being an AdClub member:
The wonderful connection with great business associates in our community and lifelong relationships that have developed.

Greetings!

Holy seminar, Adman! It's AdWORKS!
Kathy Jex ADV
Kathy Jex
2011-2012
AdClub President

That's right, all you marketing and advertising superheroes.  AdWORKS 2011 is nearly upon us and if you're not registered yet, better get a move on. Friday, October 14 is your chance to hone your superpower skills and add the latest weapons to your marketing arsenal.  There is something for everybody, with great presenters and a variety of topics that are guaranteed to fire up your creativity and provide you with new weapons in the fight for Advertising Greatness. And we're talking Superpowers here, like Harley-Davidson, maybe the world's most successful brand, and McCann Detroit with their enchanting "Pure Michigan" campaign. Don't miss this chance to learn something new to impress your clients and shock and awe your competitors with your superior knowledge and powers. We need your registration by Friday, October 7, so make it faster than a speeding bullet! Click on the links in the newsletter for all the information and registration forms.

And speaking of Advertising Greatness, start thinking about what you're going to enter in the ADDY® Awards this year. Entry Drop-Off for all those creative masterpieces will be Friday, January 6 at PointSeven Studios (again) just off Briarfield in Maumee. Then put a circle around Thursday, February 23, for the big ADDY show at the Pinnacle with another creative video production from Michael Seay and Nick Amhrein. I can't wait to see what those two come up with this year! So when you have a lull in all those client budget-planning meetings for 2012, start getting your entries together and put those dates on your book.

While you're in that ADDY frame of mind, think about who you'd like to see honored as this year's Silver Medal Award winner. Before you ask, I don't know why there's no Gold Medal! From the AAF website, "The American Advertising Federation's Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry's standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. Annually, AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community." Couldn't have said it better myself. Know any AdClub members who may fit the criteria? Check the Silver Medal information in the newsletter and check our website to see past AdClub Silver Medal winners - maybe it will spark an idea. This has been around since the real Mad Men days!

Did I say Mad Men? If you're having Mad Men withdrawal like I am, take heart. We've got an AdTINI coming up that will help us all to cope a little better until the real thing is back on the air. I promise it will be an extra relaxing one. Want to sponsor an AdTINI OR a Monthly Luncheon Program? Luncheon sponsorships are only $300 and you get a chance to put up and man a display during the networking time and give your best 5 minute sales pitch at the meeting. Contact Karen Hopkinson, Program Chair or Patty Schoepf, Executive Director Extraordinaire. They'll hook you right up.

Hope to see you all at AdWORKS and our upcoming Luncheon Programs. Remember, the more you put into AdClub, the more you get out of AdClub!

Sociably Cindy

provided by:  Cindy Ursell

In today's world of ever changing technology, businesses must adapt to stay ahead.  Included in this new technology is the wide world of Social Networking.

Sociably Cindy began with a desire to help local small business owners stay connected with their customers, after they have walked out of the store.  Social Networking has given consumers a powerful voice, and business owners need to not only hear what is being said, but to interact.

Services provided include daily maintenance of social networking profiles (Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, etc.), blog writing, and email newsletters.  Also utilizing QR codes and 'managed marketing' to connect your social networking marketing with other print advertisings.

Social networking training, both in one-to-one settings or in groups is available.  Trainings are available for Facebook, Linked In and Twitter, and are available for a novice or more experienced user.  The trainings are meant to encourage a profile that is compliant with employers Social Networking policy, as well as assist in their sales and brand awareness.

Cyber Bullying is affecting area teens every day, but many parents are still not sure if and how their young people are being affected.  Parents, school leaders or community groups interested in learning more about Cyber Bullying and how to monitor it have a resource in Sociably Cindy.

Be where the people are, and where they're searching for you.  Here to help you stay 'Sociably Connected'... Sociably Cindy

Community Involvement

Lend a Hand

A little known treasure in our community and ambassadors for Toledo, the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps has been educating young people and entertaining fans for over 50 years.  Based in Maumee, 150 highly talented high school and college students make Toledo their home for part of the year while they learn from the very best instructors and eventually spend two months traveling the country performing.  One of those summer shows is based here in Northwest Ohio held at BG stadium with eight corps from around the country.  For the past few years the Glassmen have averaged 2600 spectators at this show and the biggest factor limiting the success of this event is lack of marketing.  I am asking the Advertising Club of Toledo to assist us in promoting this event to draw thousands more to the Toledo region.  I envision the entire home bleachers at BG stadium filled with excited youth and music enthusiasts.  We are hoping to use the latest technology and marketing strategies to make this a reality.

For more information, contact Cory Dippold - Volunteer and Show Coordinator,  cory@glassmen.org

Volunteering in your own Community!

Need A Hand, Lend A Hand is a resource bank for Advertising Club of Toledo members.

Put your time and talent to good use! There are numerous not-for-profit organizations in our area that are strapped for cash and desperately need help with their public relations, marketing, and advertising efforts. That's where you can help!

The list of organizations who have asked for our help are posted here ... so now we're asking for your help. If you're interested in volunteering to assist one of the organizations, please submit the volunteer form and we'll match you up with the appropriate contact person. It's simple, appreciated and all for the betterment of the organization you're helping, the AdClub, and you. So come on, lend a hand!
