Where has the summer gone? It's August already! That's the refrain I hear from nearly everyone I talk to lately. Time flies, as the old proverb says, and it seems the older we get, the faster the time goes. Remember the endless summer days of childhood, free from all responsibilities? Playing in the sunshine, swimming and riding bikes, and chasing fireflies as the sun sets and the first evening star appears for wishing. As an adult, summer has come to mean road construction traffic jams, worries over high bills for AC on sweltering days, and watering the lawn. So stop for a minute and try to get back to the excitement of summer. All too soon, we'll be complaining about wind chill factors and measurable snow amounts, so get out and enjoy the summer we still have left! Go to a fair or festival, the Lake Erie islands, a ball game, or whatever special summer pleasure you fancy. Eat sweet corn and tomatoes from the garden, take your kid for ice cream, or fire up the grill for an evening with friends. One AdClub summer tradition is the volleyball tournament we like to call AdBASH. Get a team together with coworkers, or just come down and enjoy the volleyball, food, music and networking at this annual celebration of sport, sand and beer drinking. Click on this link for more details. And if you haven't sent in your membership dues, what are you waiting for? We've got big plans for some pretty fantastic events, including a revamped AdWORKS October 14 and another ADDY Award celebration by the inimitable Michael Seay. I can't wait to see what he dreams up this year! Monthly Luncheon Programs return on September 21, so mark your calendar for an informative presentation on Social Media Applications for Business to Business marketing and other professional uses. Matt Harlow, of Perry Ballard in St. Joseph, MI is preparing this special presentation just for us. You won't want to miss this opportunity to learn something new about the hottest trend in marketing today. Want to help plan any of these events? It's a great way to get to know more AdClub members and have some fun at the same time. Contact me or Patty for information on committees and get involved! This is your Club, so make the most of your membership and be ACTive. It's good for business! Kathy Jex 2011-2012 AdClub President |

Social Networking is easy if you are a rock star or an iconic lifestyle brand like Corvette or even if you are involved in politically charged issues like the Tea Party or Save the Children. But what if you sell printing or you are a designer from Maumee? How do you connect with your market place socially if your product isn't inherently sexy? We'll run through some classic social marketing case studies, explore different social networking channels and dig into some how-to that just might help you market exciting or even less than exciting products via social marketing channels. We'll have some fun and learn a few things that you can put to work immediately. About Matt: Matt Harlow has spent his entire professional life helping companies project the best possible brands to their prospects and live up to their brands for their customers. He's been involved in the American Advertising Federation since college and has served at the local, district and national levels in the organization as a professional. He has spoken to advertising and marketing organizations across America and taught several college advertising classes. "I'm one of the luckiest people I know. I love what I do. I love the feeling when research on a new market or a product line clicks into place and it all makes sense. I enjoy the planning and the strategy and helping my clients solve their problems and increase sales." said Matt, "I started teaching and speaking to help pay back the profession I love". Matt has BAs in Marketing and Advertising as well as an MBA from The Ohio State University. He has been in agency account service since 1987 and never regretted a minute of it! Currently he is the Director of Account Services at Perry Ballard, Inc., an advertising/marketing firm in St. Joseph, Michigan. Matt would like to try a social experiment during our meeting. To do so, he needs LinkedIn contacts and Facebook friends from the Toledo area. Take a minute and connect with Matt at http://www.facebook.com/MatthewToddHarlow and http://www.linkedin.com/in/mattharlow The worst thing that can happen is other people will think you know the speaker! sponsored by:

Surprise Toledo.
Since 1987, we've been surprising people. Big brand after big brand such as GM, Dell, Netflix, Carhartt, JBL and others have been surprised that some little advertising/design firm in Ann Arbor can think big, strategize big, work big, literally fill a room with thought and ideas and "what ifs", solve big problems, service them like a big agency but still move quickly like the not-so-big agency we are. Oddly enough, smaller brands like us for the exact same reasons. Many of us have been here at Perich for more than a decade - unusually long for this industry-but only after we found out what it was like in a big shop. Being not-so-big also forces us to be extremely resourceful, both with our own time and money, and with our clients' time and money. We're excited to be part of the Advertising Club of Toledo. We'd love the chance to surprise you. To see our work, visit www.perich.com or contact our Toledo guy Craig Hagenbuch @ 419-290-3043 for more information.
