Greetings!

| | Michael Seay 2010-2011 AdClub President |
Is that warm weather or am I dreaming?
Finally the snow has thawed and we're seeing glimpses of warmer weather as we enter into April. I'd stand on my chair and yell a "woo hoo!", but that probably wouldn't be good etiquette. Speaking of good etiquette, this month we welcome Jill-Marie Zachman to our monthly luncheon program on Wednesday, April 27 at The Toledo Club. She will be speaking on Etiquette Essentials for an Electronic World, which will hopefully explain the new rules for business on texting, social media connections, e-mail and more. To reserve your space, contact Executive Director Patty Schoepf.
We may be months away from spending time at the new Hollywood Casino - Toledo, but the AdClub has you covered in May with our annual FUNtastic event, AdBID! This year AdBID will take place on Friday, May 20 at Toledo Country Club. As always, there will be "fun money" casino tables, great food, music and incredible auction items. We are currently looking for companies who would like the opportunity to sponsor a gaming table at the event. By hosting your own table you can choose to be the "dealer" and meet attendee's one-on-one. Also, we are actively looking for silent auction items. If your company has some promotional items, event tickets or anything else interesting, please contact Patty and we'll arrange to pick it up. Invitations are also on their way out soon, so be on the lookout for yours!
Finally, I want to put out a call for anyone interested in serving on the Advertising Club of Toledo Board of Governors. Nominations or interested parties need to contact Patty Schoepf by the end of April. Serving on the board has been a great experience for me. I would encourage anyone interested in becoming very involved in our industry and/or our community to run. There are many new & creative opportunities in the works for 2011-2012 that will need the energy & talent of a strong board.
Until next time, keep on #WINNING!
Michael

Etiquette Essentials for an Electronic World
Business etiquette is more than just table manners and business cards. In an increasingly competitive and global business environment, your behavior and the impression you make in person or online can be the difference between success and failure. Proper Etiquette is knowing the right thing to do and say in a given situation. In business, it means interacting with clients, co-workers and associates in a positive manner and in various situations and settings.
Jill Marie will take us through the basics of business etiquette, from meetings to networking to customer service, and teach us to make a first impression that will be a positive one.

Sunshine
written by: Carolyn Miller
For six decades, the people working at Sunshine have made it a goal to give people with disabilities a voice in a world where these people can often be voiceless.
Sunshine's mission is to create community among people with developmental disabilities, their families, friends and staff. We do this by offering services that enable all of us to build relationships that enhance our lives through mutual caring and growth.
Sunshine serves more than 1,000 people in northwest Ohio. The goal: to provide every last person in this group with quality care and enriching life experiences. To achieve this goal, we have a broad range of programs and services that will meet the needs of each and every person we serve. We want to support these people in making contributions that the outside community will see.
Sunshine's main campus offers gardens and a greenhouse, a scenic boardwalk that winds through the woods, artistic expression at Sunshine Studios with applied art and ceramics, swimming, animal care, recycling and horseback riding. Many of these activities allow for active employment for the people we serve. We have supported employment programs that make it possible for people with disabilities to make their own income and become an integral part of the workforce.
In other words, the world's best kept secret lies just inside our doors. People with developmental disabilities have so much to offer this world, and it is our job at Sunshine to help these people contribute in meaningful ways.
For more information, call 419.865.0251, visit www.sunshine.org or e-mail Carolyn Miller at cmiller@sunshine.org. Sunshine is also on Facebook. Check out our page by searching for Sunshine Inc. of Northwest Ohio. You can also stop and visit our main campus at 7223 Maumee Western Road in Maumee.

AdClub Goes Mobile
The Advertising Club of Toledo will start to broadcast its event schedule via text messages to users who opt-in for the service. Users can get reminders to all club events such as monthly speaker series, AdClub social events and other programs about twice a month. 3rd Screen Gurus, a regional mobile messaging provider, is working with the membership committee to deploy the program. "We realize our membership is a busy group of professionals. Sending them a text reminder to our great events should be a win-win situation for our club", says Craig Hagenbuch, membership chair for ACT. Mobile messaging via the SMS "text" channel has grown dramatically in recent years. Last year 1.56 trillion texts were sent in America. To start receiving text reminders from your AdClub, simply text ACT to 55678. |
