Greetings!

Michael Seay
Michael Seay 2010-2011 AdClub President

Wow, the Advertising Club of Toledo has some incredibly talented members. This is something I have assumed for a long time, but was able to confirm this when looking at all the amazing entries submitted for the ADDY Awards this year. With 258 entries striving for the top slots, competition was very tough this year. I overheard our judges discussing how very alive the advertising industry is in Toledo, evident by the quality and creativeness of the entries. To everyone that was involved in creating and producing these bodies of work, you should be very proud.

Come see these entries for yourself and celebrate the winners at the ADDY Awards on Thursday, February 24 at The Great Hall at the Stranahan Theater. This year we will be having a Live Show with presenters, dinner and many surprises. You will not want to miss this show and the presentation of this year's Silver Medal Award winner. Gather up your friends and co-workers and join us for the 2011 ADDY Awards! To secure a table or tickets, contact Executive Director Patty Schoepf at 419.866.4199 or by e-mail at director@adclubtoledo.org.

If you cannot wait for the ADDYs or just enjoy a fun networking cocktail hour, then come to the "Pre-ADDY AdTINI" taking place Tuesday, February 8 at the Rockwell Lounge at the Oliver House from 5:30 - 7:30. Enjoy complimentary appetizers, $5 pitchers of Buckeye beer and of course it wouldn't be an AdTINI without the $5 Tia Martini. There is no cost to attend and your guests are welcome.

In keeping with the fun theme of our club, make sure to save the date on your calendar for AdPIN, the annual bowling "tournament" competition. We will be returning this year to Rossford Lanes on Friday, March 25. Details to follow, but start rounding up your 5-person team!

Finally, I ask you all to take a quick look here for current needs of the community as requested through our Need a Hand, Lend a Hand program. It is a great chance to use your talents to help some very deserving organizations prosper. Also, please let us know of your success story so it can be featured in our newsletter.

Thank you all for making this a great start to 2011 by being members and participating in all the worthwhile events. Please let us know if we can do anything to make your member experience better.

Successful businesspeople know that the gap between good and great is usually surprisingly small. That it's often the little things - both new ways of thinking and new approaches - that can transform a stagnant business into a successful one.

Looking to pull ahead of the pack and take your business to a whole new level?

Join special guest Peter Bowerman, veteran copywriter, business coach, and the award-winning self-published author of the "Well-Fed" series (http://www.wellfedwriter.com), for a lively and substantive exploration of some key strategies, tactics and mindsets that can put you and your business head and shoulders above the competition - and keep you there. The best part? They're things you have total control over.

If you're tired of living on the edge instead of with the edge, don't miss it!

You Can Bet On the Hollywood Toledo Casino

Written by:  Kathy Jex

Bob Tenenbaum, spokesperson for Penn National Gaming, spoke to members and guests of the Advertising Club of Toledo on Wednesday, January 19 at The Toledo Club. Penn National Gaming, the third largest gaming company in the country is spending $250 million to open the new Hollywood Toledo Casino sometime in the first half of 2012, according to Bob. There will 2000 slot machines, 60 table games and 20 poker tables. In addition to gambling, there will be restaurants and retail areas to make a full entertainment facility.

Bob also emphasized that the casino is bringing 2100 construction jobs and 1200 full time positions when the casino opens. Full time positions will start at $40,000 a year with benefits. The casino projects adding $25.3 million in total tax revenue for Toledo, the schools, and Lucas County.

According to Bob, the average time spent in the casino is 2.5 hours and marketing efforts will be coordinated by the company's national agency. The primary market is within 50 miles of Detroit, with some regions overlapping, making marketing efforts essential in attracting gamblers from the Detroit/Windsor casinos. Penn National Gaming is working with Destination Toledo to help create a tourism package that will include future developments in the Marina District.
