Our Favorite Things Another Big Success
written by: Kathy Jex
Okay, so we didn't keys to new cars or a trip to Australia, but we did get a lot of free samples and great gift ideas at Our Favorite Things, held November 3 at The Toledo Club. Our own local Oprah, Chrys Peterson had a great time hosting the "show" featuring several stores from Westfield Franklin Park and Levis Commons. She chatted with store representatives and got the inside scoop on their hottest gift offerings for the 2010 Holiday Season. And there were some fabulous ideas, at all price ranges and for all ages.
Casey Pogan, Marketing Director for Levis Commons and Sara Young, Marketing Director for Westfield Franklin Park did a wonderful job of presenting a variety of merchants from their shopping meccas. Especially popular were Williams-Sonoma and Schakolad Chocolate Factory with frozen hot chocolate samples and free chocolate candies respectively. The Toledo Club chef provided an excellent holiday buffet that got us all in the mood - turkey with all the sides. And the swag bags were chock full of coupons, catalogs, and cosmetic and perfume samples.
How could it get any better, you ask? How about drawings for gift certificates and prizes! Lucky attendees walked away with lots of goodies. Everyone got a ticket for attending, and another if they donated a toy. Toys for Tots received dozens of toys from the 70 people who attended, so some local children will have a happier Christmas.
Thanks to everyone who helped to organize the second annual event and everyone who attended and made the special program a success.

CP+B in Toledo
Written by: Kathy Jex
AdClub President Michael Seay got an early Christmas present this year when a representative from his dream employer came to town. Tony Calcao, Vice-President & Group Creative Director of Crispin, Porter + Bogusky spoke to a large group of AdClub members and guests at the Luncheon Meeting on November 17.
Michael has been a huge fan of CP+B for some time, and managed to persuade Tony to fly in from Denver to give us the inside scoop on one of the world's hottest ad agencies. He probably slipped his resume into Tony's briefcase after hearing the stories behind the creative geniuses who gave us the Burger King and all his hilarious antics. And what about the Domino's Pizza new marketing approach? The creatives at CP+B managed to persuade their clients to say on air that their product has pretty much sucked and they're now going to make better pizza. Imagine pitching that idea at your next creative session!
Tony explained how the creative ideas flow from their agency to produce everything from gritty reality spots for serious issues, like teen anti-smoking, to one of the most inventive campaigns for social media, dump ten Facebook friends and get a coupon for a Whopper. It was a rare treat to hear about how the "big boys" work, and it was truly inspiring for creative minds. Thanks to Michael for his fan letter, and we hope you get an interview!

Communica
Communica was established many years ago (in 1989, to be exact), with a simple philosophy: bring together the best in strategic thinking, creative excellence and account service to offer our clients the most comprehensive, integrated, brand-driven marketing communications solutions possible. And to offer it from a setting that encourages creativity, innovation and personal growth.
Our strategy worked! Today, from headquarters in Toledo's warehouse district, and regional offices in Columbus and Detroit, Communica is a full-service marketing, advertising, interactive and public relations firm that has been named one of America's top 50 business-to-business agencies six times by BtoB Magazine, a Crain Communications Publication. We work with a great variety of national, regional and local business-to-business and business-to-consumer clients, including Masco Cabinetry, the University of Toledo, Owens Corning, Ashland Chemical, MTS Seating, BASF, Levis Commons, Severstal and Tuffy Auto Service Centers. We've enjoyed a steady increase in existing and new business, and we were recently selected to partner with Automotive News in celebrating the 100th anniversary of Chevrolet in 2011.
Communica has built its reputation and client roster on strategic planning, visionary communications programming and creative excellence. We've successfully combined diverse tactics to reach our clients' communications goals: from print and broadcast advertising to contextural online advertising; from media relations to social media and direct customer contacts; from event-based promotions to website engagement.
And now we're expanding our team to make way for even more growth. We currently have positions available in account management, creative services, copywriting, online design and media planning.
