Greetings!

Michael Seay
Michael Seay 2010-2011 AdClub President

We are now past Halloween, which officially kicks us into the holiday season. Start it off right by attending the "Our Favorite Things" luncheon on Wednesday, November 3rd at the Toledo Club. WTOL's Chrys Peterson will be our "Oprah for the Day" and introduce us to all the hottest items for Holiday 2010. Sara Young from Westfield Franklin Park and Casey Pogan from The Town Center at Levis Commons will each bring several featured retailers...and there are sure to be giveaways & surprises for all! Enjoy the holiday-inspired buffet and program for only $20, doors will open at 11:30. Please also remember to bring a toy donation for Toys for Tots!

Next, be sure to mark Wednesday, November 17th on your calendar as we proudly welcome Tony Calcao, Vice-President & Group Creative Director of Crispin, Porter & Bogusky. Click here to see some of the impressive work CP+B has done for clients such as Burger King, Ikea, Best Buy, Domino's Pizza, Windows and more. It is a great privilege to pick one of their creative minds and get a seldom inside look at one of the top agencies in the world. With the recent announcement of the departure of Bogusky, there are a lot of curious eyes waiting to see what transformations will happen soon. Be front & center to hear it all first hand!

Both luncheons require your reservation, so please call Patty at 419.866.4199 or by e-mail at director@adclubtoledo.org to save spots for you & your guests. Mark your calendar early as well for December 15th as the Cannes Advertising Reel will be featured at the Maumee Indoor Theater.

Finally I want to thank all of our members, exhibitors, speakers and guests that came out to AdWORKS 2010. Your involvement in this wonderful event made the day very enjoyable and successful for our club. Dr. Martha Rogers was phenomenal and did an amazing job with the keynote. Congratulations to everyone who helped put on AdWORKS 2010, especially this year's chair, Sara Shiels.

As always, we invite you to get ACTive in our club. If you are looking for a way to give back, need help or have an idea; please do not hesitate to contact any of our board members or our Executive Director, Patty Schoepf.

Past Event Success

2010 AdWORKS
written by:  Sara Shiels, Event Chair

Another successful year of AdWORKS is now under our belt! Thank you to all who came out and took part in AdWORKS 2010 on Friday, October 15 at the Dana Conference Center/Toledo Hilton. Over 30 local businesses were represented as exhibitors, community partners and breakout session presenters which showed the great level of talent and service the AdClub membership has to offer our community! Our gratitude to the AdClub members who supported the Club's mission in bringing together local businesses with the marketing and advertising resources they need to help their business succeed. As breakout session presenters and exhibitors we hope you were able to connect with new prospects and offer them a better understanding the services you can provide. And we hope to see you all back again next year!

Thank you to all who attended breakout sessions, walked the exhibitor floor and took part in the enlightening lunch program with Dr. Martha Rogers. I hope you found great value in your day and look forward to more AdClub events throughout the year. We want to continue to bring you great events like AdWORKS, so tell us what you liked and what you want to see next year. You can send your comments to AdClub Director Patty Schoepf at director@adclubtoledo.org.

A special thank you goes out to our event sponsors and AdWORKS committee. We need your continued support to keep bringing valuable events like AdWORKS to the community and continue to grow awareness of the AdClub and the resources we have to offer.

Are you interested in making AdWORKS 2011 a great success? We'll be starting the planning process in the next couple of months, so please let Patty know if you are interested in joining the committee as we encourage all of our members to BeACTive!

Company Profile

The Blade

In 1835, Andrew Jackson was president, much of the country was unexplored wilderness, the U.S. government had no debt, a Civil War seemed unthinkable, and two villages located at the western tip of Lake Erie were on the verge of merging into one city: Toledo. The residents that had settled in these parts were struggling to build a home amidst the difficulties and diseases of living in a Black Swamp. They were farmers, trappers and traders. They had dug in and intended to stay. And not just stay, but prosper. A newspaper was one of their early requirements. It would be their symbol of permanence; a voice shouting their needs and opinions to state governments and national leaders. They called it "The Toledo Blade"-a journalistic sword that would "break before it will bend."

In December of 2010, that publication-now simply called The Blade-will celebrate its 175th year of continuous operation. No other locally owned business has been here longer. The Blade was one of the first newspapers established west of the Alleghenies, and it is one of very few left in the country that has survived the Civil War, two World Wars, the Great Depression, and more than one stock market crash and economic crisis-not to mention, the ups and downs of the newspaper industry in general.
