AdWORKS Website

Greetings!

Michael Seay
Michael Seay 2010-2011 AdClub President

We are less than 2 weeks away from The Advertising Club of Toledo's biggest event. The 2nd annual AdWORKS will take place Friday, October 15 at the Dana Conference Center/Toledo Hilton. This Marketing & Advertising showcase was recognized at the Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Education Awards in the American Advertising Federation's (AAF) National Club Achievement Competition for its entry in the category "Advertising Education".

This year AdWORKS is shaping up to be an exceptional event. First, Dr. Martha Rogers is returning to Toledo as AdWORKS Keynote Speaker. She is a treasure to our industry and we are very lucky to have her join us at a time when area businesses are looking for direction in growing. Assisting with providing help are the many Breakout Session Presenters and Exhibitors from our membership that have signed on to be a part of this event.

Invitations were mailed out last week and our partnering organizations (Toledo Chamber of Commerce, Destination Toledo, Sylvania Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, and the Center for Nonprofit Resources) have engaged their members to help promote the benefits and importance of attending AdWORKS. We ask that you also include an invitation to your clients, possibly in your newsletter or e-mail distribution. Your clients will appreciate your involvement and see you as their partner in helping to grow their business.

To register, visit:

November is also shaping up to be a huge month for our club. On Wednesday, November 3, "Our Favorite Things" returns to The Toledo Club to help you prepare for all the hottest items coming in Holiday 2010. The first-class host of this event is the woman I have dubbed "Toledo's Oprah" - WTOL's Chrys Peterson. Chrys will be joined by Sara Young from Westfield Franklin Park and Casey Pogan from The Town Center at Levis Commons. Retailers from both will show you what's going to be hot and there are sure to be a ton of giveaways and certificates for all!

You have all seen the controversial Burger King ads, the rebranding of Domino's Pizza, and the "Double Rainbow" ads for Windows. The same advertising & design factory responsible for these ads also has clients such as Best Buy, Ikea, American Express and Coca-Cola Zero. How do they come up with these amazing ideas and campaigns? Find out for yourself on November 17 when Tony Calcao, Vice President & Group Creative Director of Crispin, Porter + Bogusky will fly in to speak at our luncheon at The Toledo Club. This will be an amazing experience and we are grateful to have this opportunity.

If you have any questions about any of these events or how you can be more involved with our 100 year old club, don't hesitate to contact me or our Executive Director, Patty Schoepf. We are here to make sure you get the most of your membership and to help you Be ACTive!

AdWORKS 2010

written by:  Sara Shiels, AdWORKS Chair

Your dedicated AdClub board and AdWORKS committee have spent the last few months preparing for the AdClub event of the year! We've worked to bring together great exhibitors, informative breakout presenters, and a highly acclaimed keynote speaker. So now it's time for YOU to register to attend and be a part of the marketing and education seminar of the year - AdWORKS 2010! Friday, October 15 at the Dana Conference Center/Toledo Hilton from 7:30am - 5:00pm.

The day begins with highly informative breakout sessions presented by our club members. Choose 2 of the 6 topics offered, and be sure to bring a colleague or two so you can attend all of the sessions. The topics covered by our breakout presenters cover social media, trends in technology and printing, market research and more! Every business will benefit from the knowledge these presenters have to offer. The cost to attend the breakout sessions is $40 for AdClub members, $50 if you are not a member.

Following the breakout session you will have the opportunity to spend time talking with our exhibitors one-on-one on the Exhibitor Floor. This gives you the opportunity to start building relationships with the amazing marketing and advertising resources the AdClub has to offer. There is no cost to walk the exhibitor floor, so there's no excuse for you not to come out and see what we are all about.

We are very excited for the luncheon featuring a keynote address from acclaimed author and past AdClub board member, Dr. Martha Rogers. She'll be covering the Seven Habits of a Highly Growable Company, a presentation created with our topic of "Positioning Yourself in a New Economy" in mind. This special program is $40 for AdClub members, $50 for non-members and will cover information you will not hear anywhere else, so make your reservation today. If you plan on attending both the breakout sessions and the keynote luncheon you may do so at a discounted rate of $60 for AdClub members, $75 for non-members - this is certainly your best value!

After the luncheon, the Exhibitor Floor will reopen giving you an extended opportunity for networking and connecting with local businesses. And to keep things going we're ending the day with a casual networking cocktail hour featuring complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Use this time to talk with fellow attendees about the knowledge gained and the connections made throughout the day.

Registration is required to attend the Breakout Sessions and the Keynote Luncheon. Reserve your spot now - registration deadline is Friday, October 8.

Company Profile

The Image Group
www.theimagegroup.net

Give-aways, trinkets and trash, logo'd stuff, all names that have been given to the products we provide to our clients. Sometimes it's painful to hear how people talk about our business, but I guess it's like they say, "it doesn't matter what they say about you, as long as they're talking about you", and people are talking about promotional products.

If you stop to think about how often you come across a promotional product during the normal day, you'll have a better understanding of how important this communication medium has become. The golf items provided at the company outing, the t-shirts everyone wears on vacation, the pen that's sitting in front of you as you read this, and the coffee mug on your desk that probably needs to be washed, are all providing continual reinforcement of someone's message.

As much as these items are a part of all of our days, promotional products are often the last things considered when an advertising or marketing campaign is developed. Product positioning, communication strategies, product roll-out, branding, and viewer impressions are all important elements to a successful campaign, but none of these elements can succeed on their own and must be incorporated into a well conceived overall strategy.

Promotional products are the medium that keeps on working long after all the other communication tools have gone home for the day. With an average cost per impression of only $.004, these tools keep your message in front of the audience, continually reinforcing the intended message.

Like any tool, promotional products need to be used effectively to maximize their benefit. Poor item selection, inappropriate price point, ineffective delivery method, or any other issue that detracts from the message will negatively impact the execution of your marketing effort. So, it's not just about price, it's not a commodity, and it's not about having a brother-law in the business that should dictate who your promotional product supplier should be. Just like every other element in a marketing strategy, you need to find a partner who provides experience, professionalism, creativity, and service.

The Image Group has been part of the local advertising community since 1981. With our roots in award manufacturing, the company has grown to become the largest provider of promotional products headquartered in Northwest Ohio. In addition to this market we also have sales offices in, Cleveland, Ann Arbor, Chicago, and Fort Wayne.

Today we provide our clients with a wide range of services that include product selection and design, in-house silk screening, embroidery, award manufacturing, warehousing, fulfillment, web development and support, and data management. We're proud to be partnering with the leading companies in Northwest Ohio and throughout the US, providing our expertise to their overall sales and marketing strategies. Whether it's the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, The Jamie Farr LPGA Tournament, or the t-shirt you wear to the grocery store on Saturday morning, The Image Group had a hand in it.

We've grown based on the needs of our clients and the continual focus on our vision statement; "Our vision is to be seen and remembered as being the best at everything we do - as a company, and as individuals - whatever it takes".

Muir Graphics

In 1975, David Muir and Gerry Garner started MUIR Graphics in a garage in south Toledo.  They had one small printing press and a strong commitment to family and building a successful customer base.  The brother and sister team eventually outgrew that location and eventually landed at their present facility in Sylvania, in 1981.

That 15,000 square foot building now houses multi-million dollar commercial presses, state of the art pre-press equipment, and the newest addition--a Xerox 700 digital press.

MUIR Graphics has weathered several recessions and out-lived other larger competitors.  Many things have changed over the years, but the commitment to providing on time delivery, offering the best possible service, and producing outstanding products, still remains the foundation of the company.

Although the original founders of MUIR Graphics are retired, Gerry's daughters are now in charge.  Karen runs the day-to-day operations and Linda is a graphic designer.  Both second-generation printers have the same commitment to family and the business.

The firm has hundreds of loyal, satisfied customers.  Lourdes College, Buckeye CableSystem, Sylvania Chamber of Commerce, Toledo Museum of Art, The Village of Ottawa Hills, and a variety of advertising agencies make up part of the customer base.

Earlier this year, a new digital press was installed and it hasn't stopped running!  MUIR has printed labels, magnets, posters, personalized booklets and variable data postcards.

Call 419-882-7993 or visit www.muir-graphics.com to get started on your next printing project.  You'll be happy you did!
