Is summer really ending already?? I guess it's not really a bad thing, since things at the AdClub are just heating up. We are just over a month away from the biggest event of the year as AdWORKS is taking shape and growing. In case you've been enjoying the weather and have not noticed, AdWORKS 2010 is taking place on Friday, October 15th at the Dana Conference Center/Toledo Hilton. Invitations to attendees will be sent in a couple weeks and you will also start seeing the media blitz of print, TV and web everywhere. On a conference call we had with our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Martha Rogers, she expressed great interest in returning to the area where it all started. With preparations for a new book on the way, she has a lot of great insight to talk to us about. There is still exhibitor space available, but very limited. Sign up now to secure your spot by contacting Patty at director@adclubtoledo.org, and take full advantage of being noticed as an exhibitor. For those who have not sent in your annual dues yet, you will want to do this ASAP to be featured in the annual Program Directory given to all AdWORKS attendees. Advertising space is also available for an increased presence.

AdTINI

Come to eat, come to drink, come to network! The Advertising Club of Toledo presents AdTINI, the pre-AdWORKS networking meet-up. Organizers will be on hand to answer any AdWORKS related questions, exhibitors will be there to get the scoop and everyone is welcome. This will be one of the last opportunities to secure exhibitor space, if you haven't already, or maybe you're on the fence and want to know more. This is your chance!

Come support the Ad Club and mix at the venue for AdWORKS 2010!

Carrie JohnsonAs a marketing professional you produce a lot of intellectual property every year in your business.  This property can take the form of logos, copy, web sites, video, audio, and a host of other materials.  How to protect your intellectual property is a critical piece of your business, especially given the value of some of these materials.  For our September program we are bringing in a professional and attorney that specializes in trademark and copyright issues.  Come and learn how to both protect your rightful property and keep yourself out of trouble regarding other people's copyrights and trademarks.  This is a very relevant topic that affects everyone in our industry.

You will learn:
  • Trademarks vs. Copyright - what is the difference?
  • Choosing a brand wisely - trademark clearance
  • Trademarks - federal registration
  • What is copyrightable subject matter?
  • Ownership issues involving copyright, including works made for hire
  • Copyright - federal registration

Reservations are a must!

We're another month closer to AdWORKS! Friday, October 15 we'll be taking over the Dana Conference Center/Hilton Toledo with the AdClub event that makes your membership truly worthwhile! We want to put you in front of potential customers, so reserve your Exhibitor Space NOW! We're inviting local businesses and non-profits to AdWORKS to be introduced to the amazing talent and resources the AdClub has to offer - YOU! For just $250 you'll have an 8'x8' exhibit space to showcase your business to all of the attendees who walk the exhibitor floor (which is absolutely FREE to them)! With that, you'll also get a 1/2 page ad in the event directory program. This program will be a great take-away for attendees as it will include a complete listing of all AdClub members along with the schedule for the day. Ad space is available if you are unable to exhibit - $75 for a half page color and $150 for full page color.

We also have great sponsorship opportunities available.  Visit www.AdWORKSToledo.com for all of the details! But act fast, the deadline to participate as an exhibitor, sponsor or advertiser in the program is September 17!

You can also join us on October 15 as an AdWORKS attendee. There will be so much great information in the breakout sessions covering social media, market research, technology and more! And you DON'T want to miss the Keynote lunch program featuring Dr. Martha Rogers. She'll be covering the Seven Habits of a Highly Growable Company, a presentation created with our topic of "Positioning Yourself in a New Economy" in mind.

Still have questions on why you should be a part of AdWORKS 2010? Join us for AdTINI, AdWORKS style on Wednesday, September 8 from 5:30-7:30pm at 31Hundred in the Toledo Hilton. This swanky bar will have free appetizers and a $5 31-tini! AdWORKS organizers will be on hand to answer any questions you have about being a part of this great event! And if you're already signed up, come out and network with your favorite AdClub peeps!

Company Profile

PWG Marketing/Patrick Giammarco

When it comes to small business marketing, Patrick Giammarco has a real interest and desire to help business owners.

Born and raised in the Cleveland area, Patrick realized early on that many small businesses are overwhelmed by marketing. As a college student, Patrick worked as an intern for his grandfather's plumbing supply business. It bothered Patrick to see his grandfather struggling to market his business. "I saw the frustration that he had," says Patrick. "Ultimately, he didn't know what made him different from everyone else who did what he did, so he ended up competing on price." "I see it all the time-people get into business because they make a great product or provide a much needed service, but they're not necessarily comfortable with marketing."

Affected by what his grandfather had experienced, Patrick oriented his education and career toward marketing. While earning his MBA and gaining valuable corporate branding and marketing experience with Libbey, Calphalon, Microsoft and The University of Toledo, his desire to help small business owners with their marketing efforts never waned. In 2006, he discovered the Duct Tape Marketing System-a unique, turnkey small business marketing system created by award-winning author and blogger John Jantsch. It appealed to Patrick immediately because of its main principle: to simplify marketing for small businesses.

Community Involvement

Need a Hand, Lend a Hand
written by:  Kathy Jex

You think it's tough running your business right now? Imagine if you were in charge of a non profit organization. The economy has ravaged your budget, you lost the funding for your marketing director, and donations are at an all-time low. Yet, the need in the community is greater than ever. Where can you turn for help?

Need A Hand Lend A Hand was implemented just for this reason. Within our Club's membership are experts in the advertising and marketing arts, and just possibly a few of those people have an interest in serving their community and helping to make life a little better for someone else.

If you're interested in paying it forward, check out the list of current needs that have been posted. In many cases, it's just a little advice and guidance that's needed which is just what I found when I contacted Harry Cummins at the International Boxing Club, or as the kids now call it, the Institute for Building Careers. Instead of sweat and blood, I found inner-city kids who have built their own computer lab and have homework programs and study groups. I found kids with nothing who are earning money building and selling birdhouses so they can help to fund a school in Kenya, because the kids there are in need. These kids have become snail mail pen-pals to their Kenyan counterparts, because they don't have cell phones or laptops. And oh yes, they also like to box. I'm now developing a program for these middle and high school boys and girls to create their own brochure. It will cost me some time, and some phone calls, but I think it will all be worth it.

Check the list now and see if you can Lend A Hand. For the full requests and contact information, go to Current Needs.  There's something for everyone and I guarantee, the experience will make you feel very rich indeed.
