Company Profile
H.O.T. Printing & Graphics

H.O.T. & Shapiros compile rich history, look to the future...

In 1976, Inez Shapiro started House of Type in a spare room in her south Toledo home with one typesetting machine. At the age of 54 she sold and delivered jobs during the day, then did the typesetting and keylining at night. Not long after, she moved her growing business and half dozen employees to a small office on Airport Highway. Within a couple years, House of Type, with its signature orange color logo, became the largest typographer in northwest Ohio.

Around the same time, her son Norman, a college student, bought his first used printing press for $50 and H.O.T. Printing was born. As the business grew and sons, Greg & Myron joined the H.O.T. team, it became necessary to move again, into an 11,000 square foot building on Erie Street in downtown Toledo where the team swelled to 30+ employees working three shifts. In 1984 House of Type transitioned into a service bureau with the acquisition of their first Mac Plus and postscript imagesetter and became H.O.T. Graphic Services.  Read more...

ADDY Entries Judged
By:  Kathy Jex

This year's entries to the annual ADDY Awards were judged on Friday, January 15 at the new PointSeven Studios in Maumee. Three judges spent the day studying and rating the 241 entries submitted this year. This year's judges traveled from opposite corners of the state; Brent Plesmid, Director of Interface Design for MK2 Technologies drove from Cleveland while Mike Kurtz, Director of the Media Production Group at the University of Dayton and Steve Schaeffer, Creative Director at Creative Dimensions, Cincinnati represented the southwest corner of Ohio.

The judges unanimously agreed that there were excellent entries from very creative people and dutifully rated and discussed the merits and scores of every piece entered. So who won? You'll have to come to the annual ADDY Awards show on February 25 at the Great Hall at the Stranahan Theater to find out. There you can see all the entries and decide for yourself before the winners are announced at the show. Make your reservations now!

5 Ways to Grow Your Local Business with Social Media

(This article has been reprinted with the consent of Duct Tape Marketing Founder, John Jantsch. It first appeared on AMEX OPEN Forum Dec 21, 2009.)

Let's face it; most small businesses do the bulk of their business locally. So, the thought of gaining access to Facebook's 300 trillion users (may be more by now) isn't that relevant or useful.

However, if those local businesses could use some of the new powerful online tools and platforms to gain access to the 200-300 social media users in their town, now that might just make some sense.

There are many ways to filter, sort, aggregate and otherwise take advantage of social media tools that can specifically benefit even the smallest neighborhood oriented business.

Below are five things any local business can do to get more business using social media tools:

Four Steps to a Better Web Site
By Michael Temple, MBA

Web sites are all the rage today, it seems more companies and professionals have decided they need them and have put plans in place to build a site for their business.  Unfortunately outside of the basic notion that a site is needed most businesses don't plan out what a web site will do for their business.  It becomes a situation where you want one because "they" have one, but unfortunately without purpose and planning neither your site nor theirs will be successful.

A statistic regarding web sites is that over 1,500 new web sites are launched every day somewhere.  With that many new sites being created every day to make yours stand out, much less provide value it has to have purpose.  Here are four steps to creating a stronger web site for your business.
