Greetings!
Happy New Year! Can you believe it's already been 10 years since the world was certain to end in Y2K? We've certainly come a long way in the past ten years. The most notable changes come in technology - we expect every cafe or coffee shop to have wireless internet access, we DVR our favorite shows instead of stocking up those VHS tapes, and social media is pretty much a part of most of our daily lives. I can't even begin to imagine what the next ten years have in store for us. But I can tell you about the next few months. Read more... |

Homewood Press
Homewood Press Inc. was founded in 1930 in Toledo, Ohio and has made big steps in over 70 years of business. Today, Homewood Press is examining each aspect of the printing process to measure and reduce waste, and subsequently, to reduce the environmental impact of our processes and products. From forest to pressroom and to the eventual end life of printed products, we understand that to be successful for the long term, we have to take responsible steps throughout the life cycle of products we produce. We are tri-certified in forestry practices, being FSC, SFI, and PEFC certified. Homewood has constructed an "Energy Star Efficient" building for the sales people and non-labor employees; equipped with a tankless hot water heater to conserve energy. In December 2008 Homewood Press installed a 60-foot power generating wind turbine for the purpose of providing electricity from a clean energy source and to assist in providing power to our facility. The new wind turbine helps to reduce power consumption produced by conventional means including coal-fired power plants thus reducing air pollution and the carbon footprint of the company. We have also engineered and manufactured our own ink mixing containers made from our own wasted paper. Homewood Press is committed in being a leader in environmentally responsible green practices and utilizes the best management skills to assure a high quality printed product for it's customers, while also maintaining a green workflow.

December AdTINI by: Erin Hirschfeld, Social Co-Chair
The first AdTINI was held on December 10 at La Scola from 5-7:30 pm. The evening featured a Mad Men inspired cocktail party where AdClub colleagues sipped martinis and chatted on the cozy leather chairs in the loungey space. Delectable appetizers were sponsored by Toledo.com. Old friends chatted up a storm and new faces were welcomed into the group. We look forward to seeing you at the next AdTINI in January!

Copy Writers: The Unsung Heroes by: Kathy Jex, 2nd Vice President
I have always believed that writing advertisements is the second most profitable form of writing. The first, of course, is ransom notes."
-Philip Dusenberry, member, Advertising Hall of Fame
I spotted this quote in my AAF Smart Brief this morning while perusing the headlines and reading up on the latest in the advertising world. It being ADDY entry time, I immediately chuckled to myself and thought that ransom notes are probably a much easier way to get recognized by the media and one's peers than winning an ADDY. But that's because there are no categories for writing in the ADDYs. Nope, not a single category that offers us lowly copy writers the opportunity to offer up some of our finest work to be judged and appreciated for the creativity and sweat equity that went into its creation. How to Build a Direct Response Web Site
provided by: Michael Temple, Temple Development Company, LLC
In four days John has to pay a number of bills for his business including payroll and rent. He has already drained his lines of credit and maxed out his credit cards. While sales have been ok his problem isn't in closing deals, but getting new prospects to talk to. It takes approximately 2 months from getting a new prospect until he can close them and without a steady supply of prospects coming in he simply isn't closing enough sales to keep cash flow coming in. His situation is growing more desperate every day... Read more...
