Fear, Inc.:
The Roots of the Islamophobia Network in America Tuesday, November 15 at 7:30 PM Maryam Islamic Center, Sugar Land TX This groundbreaking, in-depth investigation conducted by the Center for American Progress reveals not a vast right-wing conspiracy behind the rise of Islamophobia in our nation but rather a small, tightly networked group of misinformation experts guiding an effort that reaches millions of Americans through effective advocates, media partners, and grassroots organizing. This spreading of hate and misinformation primarily starts with five key people and their organizations, which are sustained by funding from a clutch of key foundations. ELI CLIFTON is a national security reporter for ThinkProgress.org. He most recently co-authored a groundbreaking study on the origins and financiers of the "Islamophobia Network" in the United States. Eli holds a bachelor's degree from Bates College and a master's degree in international political economy from the London School of Economics. He previously reported on US foreign policy for Inter Press Service, where he served as deputy Washington bureau chief. His work has appeared on PBS/Frontline's Tehran bureau, The South China Morning Post, Right Web, Asia Times, LobeLog.com, and ForeignPolicy.com. "We want to help create a resilient and secure America by providing the public with fact-based knowledge, rather than shrill, fear-based attacks. Violent extremism exists in America. But it does not lie solely within American-Muslim communities." |
