1. Journey of a Lifetime: A Guide to the Hajj

The Hajj is an obligation for all Muslims to perform at least once in their lifetime. It marks the paramount act of worship in a Muslim's life. Join us for an in-depth journey into performing the Hajj, presented in a unique format by Imam Tahir. Regardless of whether you have already performed the Hajj, are planning on making the Pilgrimage this year or in the future insha Allah, this workshop will change your perspective on this ultimate act of worship. Imam Tahir has been leading a group to perform Hajj for several years and CNN has twice covered these journeys.
Session 1: 11 AM to 1:30 PM

2. The World's Most Tolerant Faith - Islam and Prophet Muhammad (s)

Prophet Muhammad (s) was sent as a mercy for the world - but this mercy was not just for Muslims, but all of mankind. How was he a mercy for non-believers? How did he behave around people from other faith traditions? How did he want his followers to behave with people from different faiths?
About the Speaker
Born in London, Imam Tahir Anwar is an American Muslim Imam (religious leader) who has been around Imams since the day he was born. Namely his father and grandfather (his first teachers), and his two brothers, who are also both Imams in California.
Born in London, Imam Tahir moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1983 and made San Jose his home. Upon completing his religious studies in India, he has been serving as the Imam of one of the oldest masjids in the country, the Islamic Center of San Jose, since 2001. He is also the head of the Islamic Studies Department, and a teacher at Granada Islamic School in nearby Santa Clara, an institution in its 26th year.
After serving on the Human Rights Commission for the City of San Jose for over 5 years, Imam Tahir now serves on the Human Relations Commission for the County of Santa Clara. He also sits on Zaytuna College's Management Committee as well as other panels and boards.
These days, he travels around the globe to deliver the message of Islam to the masses, and currently resides in San Jose, California with his wife and two sons.
In the past, Imam Tahir has served various panels and commissions, including:- Human Rights Commissioner for the City of San Jose (2003-2008)
- Community Advisory Panel for CPBS (California Public Broadcasting System), a local radio and television channel (2005-2008)
- The Interfaith Council on Religion, Race, Economic, and Social Justice (2007-2008)
Imam Tahir has also been recognized with the following awards due to his work in the community:
- February 2009 - Human Relations Award by the County of Santa Clara
- May 2008 - Unity in Diversity Award by the County of Santa Clara
- May 2005 - Community Service Award, North-American Islamic Shelter for the Abused
