NEPA Energy Solutions Expo
Showcases Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Opportunities for Everyone

Over 600 people visited the first Northeast OA Energy Solutions Expo held on June 13th & 14th at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds in Dallas Township.  The Pocono Northeast Resource Conservation & Development Council and its partners hosted this educational forum which offered homeowners, landowners, and businesses the opportunity to learn and experience new and innovative ideas in the areas of energy conservation and alternative & renewable practices, technology, and opportunities.

Council Unveils Mobile Pelletizer

Pelletizer Pocono Northeast has been very involved with the promotion of utilizing biomass as a source of thermal energy for homeowners, business, schools, hospitals, and other end users.  Biomass, any organic material that can be produced on a renewable basis and used as feedstock for energy, comes in many forms (grasses, wood, grains, agricultural by products, and potential waste products.)

Council used their Energy Expo to unveil their new Mobile Pelletizer Unit.

Donation of Solar Panels

Senator Lisa Baker was on hand as Council used their Energy Expo to donate solar panels to two local organizations.  Recipient of two panels was Wilkes University, and receiving three panels was the Carbon County Environmental Education Center.

Panels donated to will be used to provide electricity for water sampling equipment at remote field locations where power is not currently available.  Not only will the panels be used for providing electricity to run their equipment, but they will also be used to further educate students on renewable energy applications.

The Carbon County Environmental Education Center  use their panels to generate electricity to light a building that houses raptors that are used for public viewing and presentations.  The building currently does not have any electricity to it and cannot be used for demonstration or presentations during certain times of the day and year.  The panels will allow extended use of this facility, and an educational aspect will be built into the centers programs in the building to educate people on renewable energy.

Headline
Mayfield, PA - Green Field Energy Solutions has announced a Free Wind & Solar Workshop to help individuals and businesses "Get Off The Grid™."  It is an uncertain time as we await the final announcement of the utility deregulations and the effects of the predicted skyrocketing energy costs.  Green Field Energy Solutions has collaborated with Keystone Energy, Electric City Wind Power Corp, Pocono Northeast Resource Conservation & Development Council, and Endless Mountains Resource Conservation & Development Council, to offer a free workshop to educate the community on wind and solar considerations and applications.
Green Building Association of Central PA

The Green Building Association of Central Pennsylvania (www.gbacpa.org) is working with the Pocono Northeast RC&D Council to start open a branch of the organization in Northeast PA. GBACPA, the local affiliate of the U.S. Green Building Council, is an association of building design and construction professionals, construction materials and equipment suppliers, and other people interested in sustainable design. The organization provides educational and networking opportunities for green building practitioners and the public, such as tours of local green buildings, seminars on sustainable design and construction practices, educational workshops and LEEDŽ training. GBACPA executive director David Sheridan and Pocono Northeast RC&D Council chair Brian Oram are planning a meeting of people interested in the prospect of a NEPA branch in the fall. If you are interested in being involved in such a meeting, please contact either Dave (717 497-5768 or info@gbacpa.org) or Brian (570 335-1947 or bfenviro@ptd.net), please put GBC in subject.
The Pocono Northeast Resource Conservation & Development Council has discussed the potential for making the Northeast PA Energy Solutions Expo an annual event.  If you would like to see this become an annual event, assist with the planning of any future Expos, or would like to become involved with Council, please contact us at (570) 282-8732  ext 4 or sue@pnercd.org.
