Taxpayers TAKE NOTE of new consumer sales tax laws!
| "No one likes surprise letters from the government, so I want to make everyone aware of a recent development at the Alabama Department of Revenue. If you have not received a letter yet, there is a good chance that you will in the next few months. The Alabama Department of Revenue has been sending letters to all taxpayers who have not reported consumer use tax. If you have purchased items over the Internet, by telephone, or by mail order, you may owe Alabama consumer use tax. Alabama law requires that if sales or use tax is not collected by the vendor on any taxable purchase, the purchaser must report and pay the use tax directly to the state. When remitted by the purchaser, the tax is called consumer use tax. The Alabama Department of Revenue is asking you to check your purchase records to determine what items you purchased without payment of sales or use tax. You can start by reviewing your credit card records for out-of-state purchases. Also, review the purchase invoices for the large dollar items you have purchased during this period."

Amano's "COME PAINT WITH ME" by the Ticking Children | Amano 2707 Culver Rd. Mountain Brook Village 871-9093 manager: Niki Quick "Come Paint With Me" by the Ticking Children a benefit for The Bell Center for Early Intervention Programs Amano Hosts The Tickings! A workshop and exhibit by children for children... Sat., Sept. 18, 10-4 Amano of Mountain Brook Village announces a workshop and exhibit for a group of very special artists. Dorothy Ticking is a grandmother raising 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Birmingham artist, Tres Taylor and his wife Helene have been mentoring the family for 7 years. Now this family supports themselves with their own craft. Amano proudly supports this artistic venture and host the children as new artists in the gallery. To present these young artists to the community, there will be a workshop for all ages in front of the store. On Saturday, Sept. 18th, 10-4, Birmingham's children are invited to come paint with the Tickings. They will be painting on tarpaper with house paint like their mentor Tres Taylor. Each child will paint a strand of tarpaper dolls. One doll can be taken home and the rest of the strand will be donated to The Bell Center for Early Intervention Programs. There will also be a featured painting auctioned to benefit the Bell Center.
Amanos windows will be draped with the Tickings' playful art beginning September 8th. The children's art is filled with joyous imagery that only children can produce. All ages are WELCOME! We will be painting with house paint, so please wear paint clothes! Need more info? EMAIL HELENE TAYLOR Call her at 821-7489 or VISIT THE WEBSITE

Jewelry Specialty by Katz, LLCJewelry Appraisals and Repairs 3900 Montclair Road, Suite 320 Monday - Friday, 10-5 For appointments call 871-1008 "If you have old jewelry, you can make it shine again like new...come see me"! Jose Katz was born in Mexico City. When he was 28 he went to Durham, North Carolina where he met a Southern Bell, Bari Goldstein. One year later Jose made her his wife and they moved to Houston. After several years the couple moved back to Birmingham and Jose worked at Bari's family business, Golbro's. Jose has been in the jewelry business since 1980, starting in the warehouse, making deliveries and cleaning windows he quickly moved up to selling jewelry. Jose was the buyer for gold jewelry for Golbro's for seven years and then became the diamond buyer. After Golbro's closed in 1994, Katz opened his own business in Eastwood Mall called Golbro Jewelry Center.
Now owner of Jewelry Specialty by Katz LLC, Jose spends his time doing repairs and appraisals. His special phrase is, "If I cannot fix it, nobody can". He can fix any kind of jewelry such as platinum, gold, silver, costume jewelry and even refinish rings. Although he is conveniently located in Crestline, Jose will do appraisals at someone's home as well as at his office. Jose also specializes in estate appraisals and can reappraise jewelry. Katz takes his appraisals very seriously stating, "I will tell you exactly what you have, the right color, quality and value. I tell it like it is".
It does not take long after meeting Katz to see what a special man he is. He is very proud of his wife, Bari, who is a special education teacher in Mountain Brook, as well as his two children, Eve and Alex. Eve now lives in Chicago with her husband and she is expecting their first grandchild in January. Alex lives in Birmingham and works for Balch & Bingham. In his spare time Jose likes to golf, walk, jog in the pool and he loves to eat. It is also very obvious after talking with Jose Katz that he cares about his clients as much as the jewelry. His favorite thing about his job is seeing the smile of the customer when he delivers the finished piece.

Shipping UPS
