Our 2nd annual Steps for Pets  walk will be held on Sunday,
September 19th at Sawyer Point.  This year we're pleased to have
Paula Toti as our honorary walk chair.

Once again, dogs are welcome for the walk along a 1 1/2 mile
route around  Yeatman's Cove.  All proceeds from the event directly support the clinic and its programs.

Following the walk, pets and their owners may visit with nationally-
renowned animal communicator and author,Judy Fuson, and enjoy refreshments, music, vendors contests and more.

Registration is now live on www.stepsforpets.org. The cost is $20 per walker before 9/5 and includes a t-shirt and free pizza.

Homeless pets
UCAN and the Cincinnati Pet Food Pantry will be hosting Cincinnati's inaugural observance of InternationalHomeless Animals Day on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2010 from 7pm to 10 pm at the Overlook at Twin Lakes in Eden Park.  This event is intended to raise awareness of the serious problem of pet overpopulation in our community and the importance of spaying and neutering.

Everyone is welcome and we especially encourage all animal rescue and animal welfare organizations to participate in this event.  There is no cost and groups are free to bring folding tables, banners, signs, brochures, etc.  Donation jars are allowed, however our permit at Twin Lakes will not allow you to sell merchandise.  If your group would like to bring animals available for adoption, please just let us know in advance.

UCAN and SCOOP to Fix Feral Cats in Middletown Mobile Home Park
An organized effort by SCOOP (Save Cats and Obliterate Overpopulation) and volunteer trappers will soon stop a colony of over 100 cats and kittens from growing even bigger. The manager at a Middletown mobile home park contacted SCOOP for help and soon volunteers will begin the TNR process.

After being trapped, the UCAN van will transport the cats to the clinic where they will be spayed or neutered and vaccinated.  They will be returned to the park where they will be fed and allowed to live without reproducing. UCAN is providing part of the funding for the project.
      Grant for Capacity Building
The Greater Cincinnati Foundation (GCF) has awarded UCAN a $12,000 grant for upgrading systems and expanding operational capacity.  Improvements to our IT system and software will result in more efficient and cost-effective provision of clinic programs. We are tremendously grateful to GCF for its continued support and faith in our mission.
