Step Up for Students Scholarship News
| We have been notified that the Step Up for Students 2012-13 school year application season will begin one month earlier than in years past for renewal and new families. Beginning in early February, renewal families can log into www.stepupforstudents.org and begin a scholarship application for the following school year. One month later, in early March, online application to new families will open. Like last year, renewal families are asked to complete the online application and submit their documents as early as possible. Those families that complete their application, submit supporting documentation and pay the application fee by March 30th will likely receive notification of an award or denial prior to the start of the school year. The program is opening the application season earlier to better accommodate the spike in demand the program has seen for the last couple of years. By last May, just two months after the program started taking applications for the current school year, about 12,000 students had joined a waiting list. There are currently about 38,000 students enrolled in the program receiving scholarships worth up to $4,011. The Customer Contact Center is extending the hours of operation, too. Beginning in early February, the Contact Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, closing from 11 a.m. to noon every day. Families calling to inquire about their application can call 877-735-7837 for assistance.
The application fee is $30. The individual amount of the scholarship is expected to increase but won't be determined until the end of Florida's Legislative session in March. As soon as a final amount is determined, applicants will be notified.
If you know of someone who could benefit from this scholarship, please feel free to pass this information along. For more information about the program, please click here. |

Catholic Schools Week 2012
|
The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2012 is "Catholic Schools: Faith. Academics. Service." The theme expresses three priorities that make Catholic schools stand out from other educational institutions. Children learn about faith-not just basic Christianity, but how to have a relationship with God. They concentrate on academics, which in Catholic schools are held to the highest standards, so they can reach their highest potential. They practice service-giving time, talent and effort to help others-as an expression of both faith and good citizenship. This combined focus on faith, academics and service prepares students for full and meaningful lives.
We are pleased to announce our Catholic Schools Week agenda for 2012:

Extended Care News
| |
Please read this important information regarding some changes to our Extended Care program.
Our Extended Care staff is excited to serve you! Mrs. Denise Coyle is our Extended Care Director. She is assisted by Ms. Mandy Johnstone and Ms. Alyssa Shipe.
Mrs. Suzanne Brown, Mrs. Kathlenia Carter and Ms. Jessica Carter will also assist after the "option" classes are brought over to the pavilion. Please see any of our Extended Care staff members if you have questions regarding our services.
We have a new check out process at the pavilion. Please enter through the small kindergarten gate and stop at the check out station. An Extended Care staff member will help you check out and will "radio" your child's name to another staff member. Your child will be brought to you! There is no need for you to walk through the pavilion area to find him/her.
We will continue to offer "option" classes from the end of dismissal until 4:30 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., those students will be escorted to the pavilion. Any student who participates in a sport and needs to stay after the game or practice is over will be checked "in" to Extended Care for safety reasons. There will NOT be a charge for this service.
*In the case of inclement or threatening weather, the students will be kept in the auditorium. Please come to the auditorium to sign them out.
Rules to remember:
- It is ok for students to bring toys to the pavilion, but the toys must not be electronic and should be shown to a staff member before they are used.
- No cell phones are permitted during extended care. The extended care staff members have a cell phone which can be used by a student if necessary.
- The concession stand will open at 3:30 every day. Pizza, snacks and drinks are available for purchase.
- Play safe and have fun! Remember to report any incidents of misbehavior to an extended care staff member as soon as possible.
Thank you!
