Message from Administration
St. Anastasia Administration would like to remind you of some policies that are in place that need to be brought to your attention.
  • For the safety of our children, all adults must wear an identification badge (faculty and staff) or a Visitors Sticker while on campus. All visitors must sign in at the front office and pick up a Volunteer Sticker at that time. Please help us in enforcing this policy by adhering to this procedure. For more information about the policy, please see page 16 in the Parent/Student handbook.
  • Unexcused absences are those whereby a student is truant. Trips and vacations taken outside of regularly scheduled school holidays may be considered unexcused if they are not pre-approved by administration. In order to have the absences preapproved, please fill out the Extended Absence Approval Form on page 45 of the handbook. For further details on the procedures for absences, please look on page 13 of the handbook.
Office News
Due to the high cost of the magnets for the back of each students badge, if you still have your student's badge from last year and would like to recycle the magnet for this year's badge, please send your student's old badge in to the front office. Your help is appreciated!
Magazine & Cookie Dough Drive News
Please mark your calendars for Monday, Oct. 17 as the delivery day for the Cookie Dough pick up. Details on time and location will be sent in next week's newsletter. Thank you!

First Grade News
Mrs. Bush's first grade students recently learned about maps. They learned how to read them and how to make them. They learned about the different symbols and information on a map and then worked together in groups to create their own maps for make-believe cities. Mrs. Bush was so proud of their teamwork and creativeness!

Living Rosary

The students and faculty will participate in the Living Rosary on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Church. To help get us ready for the Living Rosary below are a couple of good links.

Depending on the religious congregation and the many devotions, there are a variety of ways that the Rosary is prayed. The main thing to understand is that the Rosary is a way to help us reflect upon the mysteries of our salvation. The Dominican site below is a good one with additional links.

Kindergarten News

Each year, the kindergarten classes reverently process through campus in honor of the Feast of St. Therese (Oct. 1) and the Feast of the Guardian Angels (Oct. 2). The kindergarten classes adopted St. Therese as their patron saint because she is known for her "Little Way." She realized that little sacrifices and gestures of love were pleasing to God and in order to emulate her "little way," the students give a single rose to each adult they pass on campus during the procession.

Band News
If you have not paid your $50 band fee, please do so at this time. All fees were due on October 3.

Mr. Hillard wanted to share this story about a former St. Anastasia Student and Band Member Kathryn Carnell:

Carnell-then    Carnell-now

Senior Kathryn Carnell was selected as the 2011-12 Sebastian River High School band captain. She has been playing the saxophone for the past seven years. Her future plans are to study the science behind how music affects our brain waves, specifically regarding music therapy for children with more advanced medical needs. She would like to be able to use her knowledge about - and love for - music to make a positive difference in the world.

"Leaving behind a solid band program after graduation is very important to me, and I am honored to be able to serve as band captain," she said."The Sebastian River High School Marching Sharks have a long tradition of excellence, and we are all extremely excited about the rising potential of the program. I believe in, and am very, very proud of the Marching Sharks. When they set their mind to it, there's no limit to what they can accomplish."
