St. Anastasia Church News
|  Thank you to everyone who helped make the Third Annual St. Anastasia Golf Tournament at the Legacy last Saturday a wonderful success! The sold-out tournament featured a great day of golfing with a delicious breakfast and lunch, raffle prizes, a 50/50 drawing and lots of fun. One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to have Father George tee-off for the players on Hole #7. There was no guarantee, however, that he would actually hit it better than the players could!

Magazine & Cookie Dough Drive News

Only one more week left for the Magazine Drive and Cookie Dough Fundraiser! Thank you to everyone who has participated so far! There are only two more Turn-In Days left - and they are good ones! Friday is Hershey Day and Tuesday is Jeans Day.
The schedule for Turn In Days and Prize Days is as follows:
Thursday, September 15
- Prize Day and Mrs. Fields Cookies to Top Classes from Sept.14th Turn In Day (at lunch) (K-4 & 5-8).
Friday, September 16 - Turn-In Day (Hershey Bar Day - One candy Bar per order turned in)
Monday, September 19 - Prize Day
Tuesday, September 20 - Final Turn in Day (Jeans Day on Oct. 14 with 3 or more orders turned in)
Wednesday, September 21 - Prize Day
If you need additional order forms, please contact Linette Trabulsy at ltrabulsy@stanna.org and they will be sent home with your student. Don't forget, you may also place orders online at www.qsp.com and enter the school code #1095330. Orders are counted on Turn-In Days only and count the same way that orders submitted on forms are counted.

PTO News

The PTO is proud to present the 4th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Business Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 11 from 5-7 p.m. in the Auditorium. Tickets are $5 each and children aged 3 and under eat free! Enjoy salad, spaghetti dinner, garlic knots, dessert and drinks for one low price. New this year, the event will feature a Business Expo where St. A's family businesses and local businesses may set up a table at the dinner to promote their business at no cost. Also new this year, there will be a Middle School Student Spaghetti Eating Contest and the winner will receive free a pizza lunch on Fridays for the remainder of the school year! The Dinner will feature a 50/50 raffle, a kids' arts and crafts area, door prizes (one ticket included with the purchase of a dinner ticket) and take out is available.

Family & Business Directory
| St. Anastasia Catholic School is supportive of local businesses and our family-owned businesses. In fact, we would like to encourage our families to participate in the PTO Spaghetti Dinner and Business Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. in the auditorium.
The PTO is also coordinating and updating the 2011-12 Family and Business Directory with a goal of having the printed document available for distribution at the dinner. To have your business information included in this year's directory, please fill out the form attached here.
All families should make any necessary updates to the current directory by filling out the attached form. Both forms are due to the front office no later than Friday, Sept. 23.
In an effort to reduce the amount paperwork sent home in the Thursday folders, anyone wishing to promote a business or event will be given the opportunity to place flyers in the front lobby with prior approval from Dr. Hoeffner. We will allow copies of flyers to remain in the school lobby for up to two weeks.

Endowment Gala ~ Save the Date
| Caribbean Nights ~ A Gala Affair
Mark your calendars now for a gala cocktail party on Saturday evening, November 5 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This exciting event will take place in the parish center and extend to the courtyard area. Hosted by the St. Anastasia School Endowment Board of Trustees, the evening will include a cocktail buffet, a cigar bar, and dancing with "The Coffee Beans," a jazz-fusion band with a Latin flavor. Cocktail attire is the dress of the evening. Be on the lookout for your invitation in an upcoming Thursday folder. |

Pinwheels for Peace

Pinwheels for Peace Volunteers Needed
As part of the International Day of  Peace, St. Anastasia Catholic School is participating in Pinwheels for Peace on Wednesday, September 21. Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace and is celebrated across the world. Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project allowing students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world and in their lives.
Our students have created pinwheels during their art time and students in the third grade will "plant" the Pinwheels for Peace in the Butterfly Garden and Courtyard. There will be a short Prayer Service and Blessing with Deacon Jack leading us in prayer. The Prayer Service and installation will be from 8:30-9:00 am. Join us, if you can, to call attention to the need for Jesus' healing peace in our world. All are welcome; please check in at the Front Office for a visitor pass.

| | Attention 4th grade parents! The 4th grade parent mass is Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 8:15 a.m. at St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Parents are invited to join their children for mass and then for coffee, orange juice and donuts in the school's auditorium immediately following mass. |

On Thursday, Sept. 8th, Mrs. Paxton and Vercillo's kindergarten class celebrated the Blessed Mother's birthday by bringing flowers to place at her feet in the Adoration Chapel.

|  St. Anastasia would like to form a solid Middle School Youth Group program this year and we need your help! If you are an adult or parent and feel called to this ministry of working with 6th, 7th and 8th graders on two Tuesday afternoons from 3:15 to 5:30 each month, then we would love to hear from you! Family Day is September 26
| Celebrate "Family Day" on Monday, Sept. 26. Family Day is a national celebration that promotes parents sharing a meal with their children. The Diocese of Palm Beach has provided our school with information from the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) stating that their research has found the evening family dinner is the primary deterrent of teen alcohol, tobacco, other drugs, and potential future addictions. CASA's report, "The Importance of Family Dinners VI," compared teens who have frequent family dinners (5-7 per week) to those who have infrequent family dinners (fewer than 3 per week). Their findings reflected that teens that had infrequent dinners with family were:
- twice as likely to have used tobacco,
- almost twice as likely to have used alcohol,
- one and half times likelier to have used marijuana.
Let's protect the greatest gift God has given us, our family.

Anastasia's Attic News

Did you know that St. Anastasia School operates a thrift shop named Anastasia's Attic? Our Thrift Shop helps St. Anastasia School in many different ways. Funds from the Attic help with the school's budget, provide scholarships and help the teachers with items they would otherwise have to purchase.
The Attic is doing great because of YOU! Your donations keep the Attic in business. Please continue to donate your gently used items.
The Attic is in need of volunteers. The time you spend at the Attic can be applied towards your required volunteer hours. If you can work all day, or just a few hours, your time is appreciated. The shop is open 7 days a week, so if you have a full time job, you can volunteer during the weekend. Call Maria, the manager, at 467-1444 to help.
Or if shopping is more your style, please stop by the Attic and peruse the many unique and beautiful items! Furniture, clothing, kitchen ware, linens, books (thousands of them), patio sets, electronics, jewelry, fine china and crystal.
The Attic is located at 3901 Okeechobee Road across from Dale's BBQ West in Fort Pierce. Pick up service for large items may also be arranged. For information or to schedule a pick up, please call 467-1444.

| A message from St. A's parent and Council of Catholic Women president, Karina Priest:
The first CCW meeting of the year is Saturday, September 17th after the 8:15 a.m. morning mass (approximate start time is 9:15 a.m.). The meeting will take place in room 211 at the school's Media Center.
We will have babysitting, so feel free to bring your children. We will also have breakfast and lots of information for you. Please join us!
