Firefighters' Honor Day
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks upon the U.S., St. Anastasia Catholic Church and School will honor St. Lucie County Firefighters from Station 1 on Friday, September 2 at 9 a.m. in the Parish Center. St. Lucie County Fire District Station 1 is the fire station whose coverage area includes St. Anastasia Church and School.

During the event, 1st grade students will thank firefighters for what they do for their community and give firefighters thank you letters. Students will sing a few songs.

Father George will then bless the firefighters and give them St. Florian medals. Catholic Christians uphold St. Florian as the patron saint of firefighters. During the Roman Empire, St. Florian served as a commander of the imperial army and was responsible for organizing firefighting brigades.

The firefighters are expected to bring one of their fire trucks to our school for display.

Thank you to the St. Anastasia PTO for providing breakfast for the firefighters that morning!
Family & Business Directory
St. Anastasia Catholic School is supportive of local businesses and our family-owned businesses. In fact, we would like to encourage our families to participate in the PTO Spaghetti Dinner and Business Expo on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. in the auditorium.

The PTO is also coordinating and updating the 2011-12 Family and Business Directory with a goal of having the printed document available for distribution at the dinner. To have your business information included in this year's directory, please fill out the form attached here.

All families should make any necessary updates to the current directory by filling out the attached form. Both forms are due to the front office no later than Friday, Sept. 23.

In an effort to reduce the amount paperwork sent home in the Thursday folders, anyone wishing to promote a business or event will be given the opportunity to place flyers in the front lobby with prior approval from Dr. Hoeffner. We will allow copies of flyers to remain in the school lobby for up to two weeks.
Back to School Nights

Wednesday, August 31 from 7-8 p.m.

Back to School Night for K-5

September 8 from 7-8 p.m.

Parent/Student Handbooks
Parent/Student Handbooks are being sent home this week to our new families. Please let the school office know if you do not receive a copy of the handbook.

We ask that all new parents sign the "Parent Student Handbook Acknowledgement Form," located on page 47 of the handbook, and return the form to the school office.

Returning parents are asked to sign and return the "Parent Student Handbook Acknowledgement Form" that was included with the first newsletter of the year.

Diocesan policy requires a signed Family Acknowledgement Form to be kept on file each year for every family.

All School Mass

We celebrated our first All School Mass on Tuesday, August 30. The mass was hosted by the faculty and staff and they performed a skit before Fr. George's homily. The theme of the mass was that we know we are all God's children and Jesus calls us to be "children of the light and children of the day." We are not meant to live in darkness, but in the light and love of our Lord Jesus Christ. We were encouraged to always try to reflect the light of our Risen Lord as we continue to encourage one another this year. The entire student body promised to pray for our 8th grade students as they embark on their final year at St. Anastasia Catholic School.
