Have a Blessed Easter!
The Administration, Faculty and Staff at St. Anastasia Catholic School wish you and your family a Blessed Easter and a restful break. Remember, school is closed Thursday through Monday. Classes resume on Tuesday, April 26. Our St. Anastasia School family has been preparing our hearts and minds for Easter. This included the recent Passion Play portrayed by our sixth through eighth-graders last week. Congratulations to the drama, dance, choir and band students who all worked so hard to put on this performance. Above, eighth-grader Walker Yavorsky portrays Jesus during the Passion Play. Some of our St. Anastasia students, including Madison Bush, Cameron Weideman, Jake Dunajewski, Alexis Weideman and Carly Bush, also had roles in St. Anastasia Church's Passion of the Christ performance. (There's still one performance tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Parish Center if you'd like to see the play. Tickets are $5).

Sister Helene Says Goodbye!
| |
As some of you may know, Sister Helene has been in the hospital for a few weeks and was finally discharged this morning. After leaving the hospital, she was escorted to our campus where all of our students and staff met her in the parking lot to say farewell! She is moving to Adrian, Michigan to the Adrian Dominican Mother House to be with her fellow sisters and closer to her family members. She is so excited to be riding First Class this afternoon on her flight. She has appreciated all the well-wishes, cards, gifts and most of all, prayers. She has been a blessing to this school for 39 years and will be sorely missed. God Bless and Farewell, Sr. Helene!

We love you, Sister Helene!

Student of the Day
| |
Congratulations to fourth-grader Samantha Priest as she is Student of Day today, Wednesday, April 20, 2011! Samantha's mom, Karina, won the Student of the Day silent auction item at this year's Night for the Children Auction and Dinner. With this honor, Samantha will receive: free lunch for a week and this article all about SAMANTHA!
Samantha is in Mrs. Steele's 4th grade class and her favorite subject is social studies. Her best friend is Casey Daigle. She said she is "kind of scared and excited to go into 5th grade!"
Samantha and her family live in Port St. Lucie and they attend St. Anastasia Catholic Church. Samantha's parents are Karina and Joshua and she has one sister, Jesse, who is in Pre-K. Samantha has ten pets: six cats named Sassy, Tiger, Goober and Frisky (two kittens are not named because they will be given to new families soon), two dogs named Bruce and Bob, and two fish. Bob is a Chihuahua, Lab, Terrier and Beagle mix and Bruce is a Great Dane and German Shepherd mix. Samantha tells us that Bruce only has three legs!
Samantha's hobbies include dance and playing with her pets. Her favorite color is sapphire. She spends most of her free time practicing her dancing which includes ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, musical theater and company competition. She plans to attend St. A's summer camp as well as dance camp this summer. Her cousins from Connecticut will be visiting her again this summer and she is looking forward to their trip to the Rapids Water Park while they are here.
Congratulations to Samantha Priest, our Student of the Day for April 20!

Operation Rice Bowls and Lent
| |
Easter Sunday - Alleluia!
Christ is risen! Alleluia! Like Mary Magdalene, share Jesus' life with all those around you by telling someone you know about what happened at Church this weekend. In addition, tell people about the work that Catholic Relief Services is doing on our behalf throughout the world, and invite them to become a part of this work by contributing to Operation Rice Bowl. Thank you for your participation this Lenten season!
As part of their own personal Lenten project, Bryce (3rd grade) and Austin (kindergarten) Shevak collected 407 pounds of food in one afternoon in their neighborhood. They donated the food to the Van Duzer Foundation as part of the One Day to Give event on April 6! Way to go, boys!
We will begin collecting Operation Rice Bowl contributions on April 26 when we return from Easter Break. The last day to turn in donations will be Friday, April 29. The school will combine all donations and send one check to Catholic Relief Services/Operation Rice Bowl. Thanks for your cooperation and for your prayers & support of CRS/ORB!

Fourth Grade News
| Mrs. Steele's fourth grade class raised nearly $200 for their Lenten project. They took $50 of that and purchased flowers, mulch and potting soil to plant flowers at the Juan Diego Mission today! The students walked to the Mission from school, ate lunch provided by the Mission and planted the annuals under the windows at the Delaware Avenue side of the building. After they were finished, they planted the remainder of the flowers in the Lady Bug/Butterfly garden on campus. What a beautiful and generous Lenten project!

A special "Thank You" to Mr. Ken Gioeli and Mrs. Anita Neal of the St. Lucie County Extension Office/University of Florida, who gave the presentations and provided the lady bugs.
