Second Grade News

The City of Fort Pierce's Mayor Bob Benton visited the second grade classes on Thursday, March 24. As part of the National Read Across America Day (early March), he read a story to the students. The second graders are also beginning their study of local government, so Mayor Benton also explained his responsibilities as mayor of the city. The students were so excited to meet the Mayor and we appreciate his support of St. Anastasia Catholic School!

Operation Rice Bowls and Lent
| Fourth Week of Lent - See As God Sees In today's Gospel, Jesus recognizes the blind man as one who has been made in God's image and likeness. Jesus demonstrated God's goodness to all by healing the blind man. By giving to Catholic Relief Services' Operation Rice Bowl, we support health programs in Honduras and around the world, which continue the healing work of Jesus and demonstrate God's love for all of our human family. |

One Day to Give
| |
St. Anastasia Catholic School has been asked to participate in the One Day to Give event hosted by Scott Van Duzer of The Van Duzer Foundation. In partnership with the Treasure Coast Food Bank and Mustard Seed Ministries, Mr. Van Duzer is appealing to the residents of St. Lucie County to come together on April 6, 2011 and donate 100,000 pounds of non-perishable food to benefit the County's hunger relief organizations.
Individual food drives held by schools and civic groups leading up to the event will play a crucial role in reaching the goal of 100,000 pounds of food on April 6.
As part of our Lenten sacrifices, we are encouraging students and families to participate in this drive. There are no class or individual competitions; however, our school will be included in the "friendly school competition" making us eligible for the cash awards given to the top three schools (based on the number of pounds per student collected). The cash awards are: First Place-$1,500, Second Place-$1,000 and Third Place-$500.
This project is yet another way we can help our community. We set the bar high with our Community Service Day during Catholic Schools Week! In addition to our contributions to the Operation Rice Bowls in which we can help fight hunger throughout the world, this project gives us the opportunity to help fight hunger in our own backyard.
Please click here for the event flyer. Big Apple Pizza will give away free pizza for 24 hours during the event! Thank you for your generosity!

It is a 2-day class from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. held at their facility. The class is offered for young people 11-15 (boys are welcome, also).
