Night for the Children Auction & Dinner
| |
Thank you to the sponsors, guests, donors and volunteers who made the 9th annual Night for the Children Auction & Dinner a huge success! The night was filled with fun, fellowship and generosity from those who attended. A big "Thank You" goes to the $5,000 raffle winner, St. A's parishioner, Mr. William Wolf, who donated his winnings back to the school! Also, thank you to Mr. Brian Beville, not only for serving as auctioneer for the event, but for also donating his $400 winnings from the 50/50 drawing to the school.
Thank you to the Homeroom Moms who coordinated and presented such amazing gift baskets from each classroom! Each basket contributed greatly to the success of the evening.
Thank you to our eighth-graders who volunteered at the event and made the Live Auction more "lively!" They donned firefighter apparel, hunting gear and presented artwork and street signs all in the name of raising money for their school!
The 8th grade volunteers for the Night for the Children Auction were: Marisa Scaringe, Mia Stagnitta, Paul Gonzalez, Lainey Williams, Gregory Fesler and Hannah Knowles. Not pictured: Nikki Collura.

Above: Coconut Palm was painted and donated by our very own Mrs. Kim Jacobus. The Gator Package, donated by Mrs. Huseinovic's 5th grade class, included an autographed Tim Tebow football and more!
We would also like to thank our program advertisers and gift donors! Thank you for your continued support of St. Anastasia Catholic School.

Fasting and Abstinence for Catholics
| |
During Lent, Catholics in the United States abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. They fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
To abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent means to not eat meat on those days. It does not intend the omission of eggs or dairy products.
The required fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday involves eating only one full meal on those days. One or two smaller meals may be taken on those days, but may not total one full meal. The required fast does not allow eating anything between meals.
"All Catholics who have completed their fourteenth year are bound by the law of abstinence; all adults are bound by the law of fast up to the beginning of their sixtieth year.
Nevertheless, pastors and parents are to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance." - Code of Canon Law, #1252
In observance of Lent, we will not offer ice cream or snacks during lunch beginning March 9 (Ash Wednesday) and continuing through Easter Monday. After Care snacks will be limited to water, Gatorade, pizza and a variety of crackers. Breakfast will still be available for purchase before school.
Please plan accordingly, and consider donating your snack money to the "Rice Bowl" collection boxes (see article below)! Thank you for your generosity!

Operation Rice Bowls and Lent
| | Journeying Through the Desert...As we enter the desert of Lent together, Jesus shows us that to live fully the life God has given us, we must obey His Commandments and follow the Holy Spirit. Just as we are called to care for the gift of our eternal life, we are also called to care for the gift of God's creation. Catholic Relief Services' Operation Rice Bowl supports agriculture programs in Haiti and around the world that teach farmers effective and ecologically sensitive growing methods which allow them to get the most out of their land while preserving it for future generations |

One Day to Give
| |
St. Anastasia Catholic School has been asked to participate in the One Day to Give event hosted by Scott Van Duzer of The Van Duzer Foundation. In partnership with the Treasure Coast Food Bank and Mustard Seed Ministries, Mr. Van Duzer is appealing to the residents of St. Lucie County to come together on April 6, 2011 and donate 100,000 pounds of non-perishable food to benefit the County's hunger relief organizations.
Individual food drives held by schools and civic groups leading up to the event will play a crucial role in reaching the goal of 100,000 pounds of food on April 6.
As part of our Lenten sacrifices, we are encouraging students and families to participate in this drive. There are no class or individual competitions; however, our school will be included in the "friendly school competition" making us eligible for the cash awards given to the top three schools (based on the number of pounds per student collected). The cash awards are: First Place-$1,500, Second Place-$1,000 and Third Place-$500.
This project is yet another way we can help our community. We set the bar high with our Community Service Day during Catholic Schools Week! In addition to our contributions to the Operation Rice Bowls in which we can help fight hunger throughout the world, this project gives us the opportunity to help fight hunger in our own backyard.
Please click here for the event flyer. Big Apple Pizza will give away free pizza for 24 hours during the event! Thank you for your generosity!

Second Annual Kid's Art Fair
| Thanks to all the kids, parents, family and friends that joined us last Thursday night for the 2nd Annual KidsArt Fair! The night was filled with great art, ice-cream and lots of smiles from our young artists. Thank you PTO volunteers and Mrs. Shelley Beringhaus for serving up the ice-cream sundaes. Thanks, also, to all of the hard working volunteers that help set-up the Fair. Lots of hands framed more than 140 pieces of student artwork and then transformed the Parish Center into an Art Gallery! Stunning! The numbers aren't officially in; yet, but more than 110 frames were sold. The Art Department will receive 20% of the sales from KidsArt Fair to be used for the purchase of more art supplies. Thanks for your support of this event!
