Next Wednesday, March 9 is Ash Wednesday. There is an All School Mass at 1:30 p.m. Parents are invited to join us.

Fasting and Abstinence for Catholics

During Lent, Catholics in the United States abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and on all the Fridays of Lent. They fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

To abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays of Lent means to not eat meat on those days. It does not intend the omission of eggs or dairy products.

The required fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday involves eating only one full meal on those days. One or two smaller meals may be taken on those days, but may not total one full meal. The required fast does not allow eating anything between meals.

"All Catholics who have completed their fourteenth year are bound by the law of abstinence; all adults are bound by the law of fast up to the beginning of their sixtieth year.

Nevertheless, pastors and parents are to see to it that minors who are not bound by the law of fast and abstinence are educated in an authentic sense of penance."
- Code of Canon Law, #1252

In observance of Lent, we will not offer ice cream or snacks during lunch beginning March 9 (Ash Wednesday) and continuing through Easter Monday. After Care snacks will be limited to water, Gatorade, pizza and a variety of crackers. Breakfast will still be available for purchase before school.

Please plan accordingly, and consider donating your snack money to the "Rice Bowl" collection boxes (see article below)! Thank you for your generosity!

Operation Rice Bowls and Lent

You Are Invited...As we begin our Lenten journey, you are invited to participate in Catholic Relief Services' Operation Rice Bowl. Throughout
Lent we will pray, fast, learn and give as a way to reach out in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world. Please be sure to take home a Rice Bowl packet and follow this simple yet powerful Lenten practice. Visit orb.crs.org for additional resources to use at home.

Rice bowls will go home in this Thursday's folders.
