Jog-A-Thon News

The St. Anastasia Catholic School Jog-A-Thon is Friday, Feb. 4th. This event is a very important fundraiser for the school and we need every student's participation in order for us to succeed. Our school goal is $20,000 and we can reach that goal if each student turns in at least $40 in pledges.

The Jog-A-Thon is a fun event that involves students in kindergarten through 8th grade. Each student obtains pledges, either by lap or as a single pledge, and on the day of the event, runs laps around a track. The laps are counted and students are eligible to win prizes based on how many laps they run. Pledges are then tallied and mailed to the sponsors for payment.

We have scheduled three (3) specific Turn-In Days for pledges. Turn-In Days are:

  • Thursday, Jan. 20* (by 9 a.m.)
  • Thursday, Jan. 27* (by 9 a.m.)
  • Thursday, Feb. 3

*If students turn in pledges on Thursday, January 20 and Thursday, January 27, they will win prizes. Information and pledge sheets will be sent home in the Thursday folder. The deadline to turn in pledges is 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 3. In order to participate in the Jog-A-Thon, students must turn in at least $10 in pledges.

Students should wear P.E. clothes (or Catholic Schools Week t-shirts) and tennis shoes on the day of the event. The students really enjoy this event, so we encourage you to involve them in obtaining pledges from family members and friends! We would also like to invite you to join us for the Jog-a-Thon - bring a lawn chair and watch the festivities! Or, if you need volunteer hours, this is a great opportunity to help! Don't forget that this day (Friday, Feb. 4) is a noon dismissal, too. Thank you ahead of time for your continued support and generosity! If you have any questions, please contact me at ltrabulsy@stanna.org or 461-2232.

Pre-K Post
Don't forget to check the "Pre-K Post" for all the news and happenings in Pre-K. Click here to visit the Pre-K Post.

Pre-K's next big event will be the annual Pre-K "Pajama Day."  On Friday, January 21, Pre-K students may come to school in their pajamas. There will be guest readers to read special books to the children. All the adults and other students on campus are so envious of the Pre-K Pajama Day!

Job Opportunities
St. Anastasia Catholic School is presently taking applications for 3rd and 5th grade teaching positions. Applicants with 1 yr.-5 yrs. teaching experience, a Florida certification, and a bachelor's degree in education can expect to earn $27,000-$30,000 annually in this richly rewarding position. Excellent medical benefits and tuition reduction for the teacher's children are available. Knowledge and experience of a sacramental life in the Catholic Church is necessary to teach the religion coursework and provide religious mentoring to the students. A basic understanding and excitement for 3rd and 5th grade student development and innovative teaching strategies are also valuable to this vocation. If you are interested in leading 3rd and 5th graders toward Christ at St. Anastasia, please send a letter of interest and motivation for teaching at a Catholic School with your resume to:

Mid-Year Uniform Exchange
The School Advisory Council announces a new initiative they will undertake this week - the Mid-Year Uniform Exchange. Please read the following message from our Advisory Council President Mrs. Karina Priest:

Due to difficult economic times as well as how fast our children grow, the St. Anastasia Catholic School Advisory Council will hold a mid-year uniform exchange on Friday, January 14, 2011. It will be handled a little differently than the one at the end of the year. We are asking that parents send in the bag of uniforms they wish to exchange with their children on Friday morning. The uniforms should be turned into the front office or the student's homeroom teacher. Please make sure the uniforms are clean and in good condition. Each bag must have a note with the name of the child and what you want to exchange, as well as the sizes you're looking for. Also, you will need to note if you want to get the uniforms back in case you cannot get the sizes you need, or if you'd like to donate them. (Please include your contact information just in case we have questions). Your child will bring home the exchange uniforms or the old ones no later than Monday the following week. The children will not get a free dress day, so please plan accordingly. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Karina Priest, School Advisory Council President at 561-329-4515 or karinapriest@gmail.com.

Volunteers are needed to help sort uniforms on Friday. Please meet Mrs. Priest at the front office at 9:30 a.m. if you can assist. Thank you!

Eighth Grade News

In December, the 8th grade students collected money and went to Wal-mart to purchase gifts for families that normally would not have Christmas presents. They brought the gifts back to school, wrapped them and celebrated with pizza. According to Ms. Fitzgerald, the group's sponsor, "It's a great way for the kids to give during the Advent season as they prepare for the ultimate gift of God's son."

The Middle School Youth Group's next meeting is Tuesday, February 8 from 6-8 p.m. in the Parish Center. All 6th-8th grade students are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Mrs. Gina Daigle at 772-579-8637.
