Merry Christmas from St. Anastasia Catholic School!

Thank you for the many blessings that you continue to share with our school. Growing with your children is richly rewarding. I am so thankful for our professional faculty, our hardworking administrative and service staff and for the parents who volunteer to enrich our school with the gift of their time.

The holidays are a joyful time of thanksgiving and celebration. We come together with family and friends to renew our faith and celebrate God's great love for humanity. This season, let us take a moment with our family and reinforce our priorities.

Children, don't miss your chance to find Jesus during your holiday. Jesus is very hard to find on T.V., in a video game or in the mall. My experience is that Jesus
can be found in relationships. The greatest of these relationships is with Him. The best feeling that you will receive this Christmas will not be from a present that you unwrap. The ultimate joy will be found in sharing your love with God and with your family.

I hope that you will attend mass this Christmas to wish Jesus a Happy Birthday, to thank Him for the many blessings that He has given you and to offer Him the praise that He so justly deserves.

God bless you and Merry Christmas!

Sincerely,
Dr. Hoeffner

I hope you enjoy the wonders of Christmas with your families! May Christ continue to bless your home with peace, love and happiness in 2011!

Las Posadas Christmas Pageant

Thursday evening is the Performing Arts presentation of "The Night of Las Posadas"! Las Posadas is an old Spanish custom celebrating Mary and Joseph seeking shelter in Bethlehem on Christmas Eve. In Spanish, posada means "inn."

The play will begin at 6:30 p.m. All 7th and 8th grade students need to arrive in the Cafeteria at 5:45 pm. All 7th and 8th grade Band students report to the Band Room at 5:45 p.m.

We hope you will join us for this magical retelling of the story by Tomie DePaola. There will also be a presentation for the school on Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.

Feast Day Honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe
Mrs. Paxton's kindergarten class recently learned about the Feast Day in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. According to tradition, on Dec. 9, 1531, Juan Diego saw a vision of a young woman dressed as an Aztec Princess while he was on the hill of Tepeyac near Mexico City. She asked that a church be built at that site in her honor. Diego told the Bishop of Mexico, Juan de Zumarraga, who asked for proof. Three days later, when Juan Diego opened his cloak before the Bishop, roses fell from and the image of Mary miraculously appeared on his cloak. The students reenacted the story and dressed in the roles of Juan Diego, the Bishop and Our Lady.

Third Grade News

Mrs. O'Loughlin's and Mrs. Lott's third grade classes were very busy last week. Not only did they present the All-School Immaculate Conception mass, they presented "Reader's Theater" to parents and the kindergarten through second grade classes. The play was called, "Pushing Up the Sky," and was part of their reading classes. Each student played a role from narrating to Indian Chiefs to animals and everyone played a role in creating the costumes and scenes. From the story, the students and audience members learned to work together to accomplish a goal. Yaa-Who!
