Welcome Our New Third Grade Teacher, Mrs. Lott!

Megan

St. Anastasia Catholic School is pleased to introduce our new third grade teacher, Mrs. Megan Lott. Mrs. Lott has taught third grade before and will use her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University and Masters degree in Reading Education, also from FAU, to the benefit of our third grade students. She is certified through the state of Florida to teach K-6 and holds additional certification as a Reading Specialist.

Mrs. Lott attends St. Anastasia Catholic Church with her loving husband, Joe, and their three beautiful daughters. Mrs. Lott's daughters, Celeste, Maddie and Mary-Alice, also attend St. Anastasia Catholic School.

Mrs. Lott was born and raised in Miami and has been in Fort Pierce for more than seven years. In her free time, she enjoys playing Barbies with her girls, watching college football (Go Noles!) and traveling. Prior to working for St. A's, Mrs. Lott volunteered for many school activities including Homeroom Mom, PTO and various other times at school. She is also very active in the community. She participates in the Team in Training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and serves in The Royal Palms of St. Lucie.

Mrs. Lott said, "I'm thrilled to be a part of the St. Anastasia family and can't wait for all of the wonderful things that the future holds!"

Please join us in welcoming and supporting her as she transitions into her new role and directs the formation of the third graders in their faith and academics.
Feast of St. Therese and the Guardian Angels
On October 1, the kindergarten students participated in a procession honoring St. Therese on her feast day. Several years ago, the kindergarten students adopted St. Therese as their patron saint. Generations of Catholics have admired this young saint, calling her the "Little Flower." St. Therese is known for her "Little Way." In her quest for sanctity, she realized that it was not necessary to accomplish heroic acts, or "great deeds," in order to attain holiness and to express her love of God. She wrote, "Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? Great deeds are forbidden me. The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love." Thus, the kindergarten students honor her by giving a rose to adults as they process around the school grounds. During the procession, one student dresses as St. Therese and another student dresses as a Guardian Angel to honor the Feast Day of the Guardian Angels that takes place on October 2.

Magazine Drive & Sports Pep Rally
On Friday, Oct. 1, we celebrated the success of our Magazine Drive and honored our fall sports teams. Thanks to all who participated and attended. Congratulations to Daniel Presume and Mrs. Steele's fourth grade class! Daniel won the QB challenge -- the Best Endzone Dance -- with his awesome moves and won his class the trophy and pizza party!

Thank you to the many parents who contacted us regarding bow making for our Christmas wreaths. We will be contacting you soon regarding details on this volunteer opportunity. Another opportunity to earn volunteer hours includes donating decorative berries for the wreaths. These items may be found at the Dollar Store or any craft stores. They vary in price and size, so if you provide $20 worth of berries, you can earn 1 volunteer hour.

Donations (with your name attached) may be dropped off in the Development Office and we will be happy to mark down your volunteer hours for you. Contact Linette Trabulsy at ltrabulsy@stanna.org in the Development Office if you have questions. Thank you!
Living Rosary
Join us on Thursday, October 7 at 2 p.m. when students will participate in The Living Rosary at St. Anastasia Church. Students in 4th-6th grade will make up the "beads" of the "living" rosary, while 8th grade lectors will lead us in prayer. The Junior Choir will provide the music during the prayer service.

The Living Rosary is an opportunity for the school to meditate on the mysteries of the Lord. It is a simple devotion which can be said by all people. While we say the Our Father, ten Hail Marys and Glory to the Father, we think about great moments in the lives of Jesus and Mary. In this way, we grow closer and closer to Jesus and his Blessed Mother. We learn to imitate their holy lives.

In honor of Our Lady of the Rosary, Sister Helene has been visiting the kindergarten through third grade classes recently to discuss the rosary and explain the significance of praying the rosary. Below, she explains the rosary to Joey Ageeb, Mallory Hendrickson and Lauren White in Mrs. Schildwachter's second grade class.

Time to Order Yearbooks
The 2011 St. Anastasia Catholic School yearbooks are now on sale! Buy your yearbook early and save money! The full-color, 104-page yearbook will be packed with school memories your child will treasure for many years to come. Purchase your yearbook for only $20 until Friday, October 29. The yearbook will cost $25 after Oct. 29, 2010.  To purchase your yearbook, fill out the yearbook envelope that will be sent home on October 7 and return it with your check made payable to St. Anastasia Catholic School. Please do NOT send cash.

Parents are encouraged to send digital photographs to lhamilton@stanna.org for consideration in the yearbook. Contact Mrs. Hamilton at 461-2232 with any questions.
School Photos
School photos are being sent home tomorrow. To place an order, please follow the directions on the envelope. Judge your child's portrait by the expression. Lightness, darkness and color will be corrected in the final printing. Checks should be made payable to St. Anastasia School.

The deadline to place an order is Tuesday, October 19. Be sure that the student's name and room number are on the envelope. Please do not tear the proof from the envelope, as we need the proof to place an order.

If you would like your child to have a retake, return the original picture envelope, with the proof attached, to the school office by Tuesday, October 19. The child's name and room number need to be at the bottom of the envelope, and the word "RETAKE" needs to be written somewhere by the student's picture. If the proof and envelope are not returned the student will not be eligible for a retake.

Students who were absent on Thursday, September 16 will have their picture taken on "Retake Day".

Retakes will be taken on Wednesday, October 20th. Retakes will not be allowed if we do not have the picture envelope, with proof attached, returned to the school office. The order deadline for re-takes will be announced at a later date.
Snakes in Kindergarten!
Last week, Mr. and Mrs. Bookspan, parents of kindergarten student Caitlin Bookspan, brought in several snakes to Mrs. Christopher's classroom. They taught the children about snakes, showed several species and let the children touch the "nice" ones. Below, Caitlin helps her parents during the presentation. She is holding a corn snake which is not poisonous.

Rainbows for All God's Children
