St. A's Student Council ~ ~ Leading the Way ~ ~
St. Anastasia Catholic School is proud to have
a Student Council beginning its third year in existence at our school. The
mission of the Student Council is to unite students, faculty and staff in an
atmosphere of school spirit and pride by:
respectfully representing the
student body; maintaining and reinforcing the
bond between students, faculty and staff; increasing student morale and
school spirit; serving as liaison between
administration and students; fostering communication and
promoting a positive attitude between faculty and students; and
encouraging community service
through example.
Last year, the Student Council was responsible for working with administration
on a special Veteran's Day ceremony. Another important project the Student Council assisted with last year was the Thanksgiving Food Drive. They helped promote the drive and organized the hundreds of food items donated by our St. A's families. They also sponsored a very successful book
drive collecting many books for the Hope Rural School in Indiantown.
This year, the Student Council plans to be even more involved with several
activities in the works. Stay tuned for more great news coming from the St.

Magazine Drive & Sports Pep Rally
| |
On Friday, Oct. 1, we will celebrate the success of our Magazine Drive and honor our sports teams, too! Beginning at 2 p.m. at the pavilion, the pep rally will feature a short Magazine Drive Quarterback Challenge (Best Endzone Dance only judged by Student Government members) along with highlighting our top sellers for the drive. Then, we will introduce our sports teams. The band and the cheerleaders will perform during the pep rally, too! Parents are welcome to attend.
On Friday, students who turned in three or more magazine orders on Sept. 1 have the opportunity to participate in "Jersey Day." This means students may wear their favorite sports jersey or t-shirt with PE uniform or regular uniform shorts/pants. The students who received this prize were given prize slips and their names are highlighted on a list in their classroom.
The fall sports team members should wear the following (for the day and pep rally): - Cheerleaders - Spirit shirt and PE or regular uniform shorts
- Soccer - Soccer uniform jersey and PE or regular uniform shorts
- Volleyball - Spirit shirts and PE or regular uniform shorts
Everyone else should wear their regular school uniform (or PE uniform if it is a PE day). If you have any questions, please contact Linette Trabulsy at 461-2232 or ltrabulsy@stanna.org. Also, tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 30 is a Jeans Day for those students who turned in three or more orders on Sept. 13. Again, teachers have the lists of eligible students and the students were given prize slips after the drive. Please follow the Parent/Student Handbook ( www.stanna.org) for guidelines on what to wear on Jeans Day. Eligible students may wear any appropriate shirt on Jeans Day. |

ITBS Testing Begins Next Week
|
Attention parents! Iowa
Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) testing begins Monday, Oct. 4! It is very important
that our students arrive on time throughout the week. Students who arrive after
testing begins will not be permitted to enter the classrooms late. Don't be
late, arrive by eight! Also, please read the "testing tips" below. Plenty of rest, a nice
breakfast, and a good morning routine will help our students achieve to the
best of their ability! Go students, go!
Top Ten
Test-Taking Tips for Students Here
are the top ten tips to success!
1. Have a Positive Attitude- Approach the big test as you'd approach a giant jigsaw puzzle. It might be
tough, but you can do it!
2. Make a Plan - The week before the test, ask your teacher what the
test is going to cover. If you've been absent, talk to friends about material
you may have missed.
3. The Night Before - The night before the test you should get to bed
early. Remember, your brain and body need sleep to function well, so don't stay
up late!
4. The Morning of the Test - Did you know that you think better when you
have a full stomach? So don't skip breakfast the morning of the test.
5. Test Time - Before the test begins, make sure you have everything
you'll need - scratch paper, extra pencils, etc. Read the instructions! You
want to make sure you are marking answers correctly.
6. Manage Your Time - Scan through the test quickly before starting.
Answering the easy questions first can be a time saver and a confidence
builder. Plus, it saves more time in the end for you to focus on the hard
stuff.
7. I'm Stuck! - Those tricky problems can knock you off balance. Don't
get worried or frustrated. Reread the question to make sure you understand it,
and then try to solve it the best way you know how.
8. Multiple-Choice Questions - The process of elimination can help you
choose the correct answer in a multiple-choice question. Start by crossing off
the answers that couldn't be right. Then spend your time focusing on the
possible correct choices before selecting your answer.
9. Neatness Counts -If your 4's look like 9's, it could be a problem. Be
sure that your writing is legible and that you erase your mistakes. For
machine-scored tests, fill in the spaces carefully.
10. I'm Done! - Not so fast - when you complete the last item on
the test, remember that you're not done yet. First, check the clock and go back
to review your answers, making sure that you didn't make any careless mistakes.
Spend the last remaining minutes going over the hardest problems before you
turn in your test.
Follow these test tips, and you'll know you did
your best - congratulations! |
