Eighth Grade "Staying Connected"

Last Friday, our eighth graders participated in a one-day retreat at school and at St. Mark the Evangelist Church. The theme was: It's a jungle out there...Stay Connected to the Vine (John 15:1-5) and it stressed the importance of the perfect communion of love found in the Trinity and that God wants us to share in that love. It served as a reminder to stay close to Jesus and that God is always with us. The students participated in activities that encouraged trust and teamwork that comes from modeling the perfect community of the Trinity. The Retreat team consisted of Sara Fitzgerald (Religion Coordinator), John Marsh, Barbara D'Amato, Ann Delaporte, along with other faculty and parent volunteers.

During their retreat, the eighth graders were asked to go outside and find something in the vicinity that helps them relate to the bible verse John 15:1-5. Students came back with numerous items and descriptions of their perception of "Staying Connected to the Vine." Top: Adriana Knowles, Brittany Langel, Madelyn Church and Janae Carter. Middle: Jonathan Jethroe and Patrick Perone;Bottom: Hannah Knowles.

A special Thank You to the parent volunteers who helped with the retreat. From filling water balloons to serving lunch, these ladies worked very hard to help make the day run smoothly.

Clip & Collect
The PTO is once again collecting several items to help the school including Box Tops for Education, Tyson A+ Project, Campbell Soup Labels, used cell phones and toner cartridges. New this year, the PTO is participating in Coke Rewards. There are two ways to participate and help the school by using Coke Rewards. Either send in your Coke Rewards number (bottle tops and from the boxes of twelve packs) with your children or enter in your Coke Rewards numbers online coke rewards(mycokerewards.com) and donate your points to St. Anastasia Catholic School. The school will become eligible for prizes from Coca-Cola and the students who collect the tops/numbers are eligible for the prizes from PTO.

The PTO is currently seeking volunteers to help count and clip the Box Tops and other items. If you need volunteer hours that you can earn from home, this might be a fantastic opportunity for you. Please contact Fran Rheinberger at f.rheinberger1403@comcast.net for more information.

(Pre-K students remain in the Pre-K building and will not be able to visit the concession stand. Pre-K students must pack a lunch if staying past noon).

Due to the noon dismissal on Friday, Pizza will be served on Thursday, Sept. 23 (not Sliders).

Pinwheels for Peace ~ International Day of Peace
As part of the International Day of Peace, St. Anastasia Catholic School participated in Pinwheels for Peace yesterday. Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace and is celebrated across the world. Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project allowing students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world and in their lives.

Our students created pinwheels during their art time. Yesterday, the first and eighth graders "planted" the pinwheels in the Butterfly Garden and Courtyard with Deacon Jack leading us in prayer.

The St. Lucie News Tribune was on hand to cover the event. Please click here to watch the video they created featuring our wonderful art teacher, Ms. McCadden.
