First Grade Super Citizens!

In an effort to focus on "Back to Basics," first grade teachers Mrs. Noelke and Mrs. Guettler are watching for positive group behavior in their students such as working as a team, taking turns, keeping their hands and feet to themselves, being polite, listening when others speak, helping others and sharing. This program is called Super Citizens. Each first grade class has six groups or "teams" that sit, work and learn together. Each group has a jar with 10 blue gemstones at the beginning of each week and groups can gain gemstones by exhibiting the behaviors listed above. They lose gemstones for not exhibiting these positive behaviors. On Fridays, the one group in each class with the greatest number of gemstones earns the right to eat lunch at a special table with a festive table setting and a nice treat. This opportunity gives W-7 and W-8 students a chance to eat lunch together and visit. Sometimes "celebrities" at the school may stop by and commend the students on their great group behavior and good manners. Each week the groups begin with 10 gemstones again and they start earning/losing gemstones. A new group could earn this special privilege each week. The children are working together and reminding one another about positive group behavior trying to be the next group at the special Friday lunch. Congratulations to the first two groups who earned the Super Citizens title!

Congratulations to the First Grade Super Citizens. Thank You!
Thank you to the White Family and the Petry Family for donating funds to purchase an AV System for Mrs. Schildwachter's second grade class!

Starry Night in Second Grade
Mrs. Capezza's second grade class read the story "Henry and Mudge and the Starry Night" last week. The story is about a camping adventure and as an integrated writing lesson, students responded to a writing prompt and wrote their own narrative stories. At the end of the week, the class rolled out their sleeping bags, made a "campfire" and enjoyed tasty marshmallows and popcorn while sharing their creative stories.

Mrs. Capezza's second graders "warm" their hands by the campfire as they finish their creative camping stories last week.
School Pictures
Individual student photos will be taken on Thursday, Sept. 16. Say cheese!

Pinwheels for Peace ~ International Day of Peace
As part of the International Day of Peace, St. Anastasia Catholic School is participating in Pinwheels for Peace on Tuesday, September 21. Peace Day has marked our personal and planetary progress toward peace and is celebrated across the world. Pinwheels for Peace is an art installation project allowing students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world and in their lives.

Our students have created pinwheels during their art time and students in first and eighth grades will work together to "plant" the Pinwheels for Peace in the Butterfly Garden and Courtyard. There will be a short Prayer Service and Blessing with Deacon Jack leading us in prayer. Join us, if you can, to call attention to the need for Jesus' healing peace in our world. All are welcome; please check in at the Front Office for a visitor pass.

We are still in need of parent volunteers to help with the installation and removal on that day. There will be two separate installations. The first installation will be in the Courtyard from 8:20-8:55 a.m. (Rooms 206 & W-8), and the second will be in the Butterfly Garden from 9:05-9:40 a.m.  (Rooms 203 & W-7). The installation will need to be disassembled after school between 3:00 and 4:00. Please e-mail Ms. McCadden if you can help mmccadden@stanna.org.
