Jump Rope for Heart
|
Our
school is participating in a very special community service program to raise
funds for the American Heart Association. We will be "jumping" to fight against our nation's No.1 and No. 3 killers
- cardiovascular diseases and stroke. During regularly scheduled P.E. classes on March 1st and 2nd, we will participate in our "2nd Annual Jump Rope For Heart"
event. This program helps students learn
about the benefits of regular physical activity and heart health, but also
teaches children the value of giving back to those in need. Heart disease affects
every family, so help us support the American Heart Association as they help
people live longer, healthier lives!
Sponsor forms were sent home in the Thursday folder last week and any donations are due by March 2, 2010. Our school will be eligible for P.E. supplies and certificates for our participation and students can win prizes such as a Free Kids Meal at Panera Bread, sports bottles, jump ropes t-shirts and more! If you have any questions about the event, please contact Coach Jo at the school. |

St. Anastasia School Lenten Offerings
|
As part of the Lenten Season, St. Anastasia Catholic School is participating in two projects to help the needy. The first is the Catholic Relief Services' Operation Rice Bowl that has already come home with your child. Operation Rice Bowl began in 1975 and offers Catholics in the U.S. a way to connect with our brothers and sisters around the world. Over the past 35 years, $191 million has been collected through this program to support CRS' development projects that improve people's ability to access food in communities around the world and the United States. Families may use this Rice Bowl to give sacrificial contributions as suggested in the daily reflections provided. Students should turn in the Rice Bowls to their teachers by March 31.
The second project is the Florida Catholic's Long-Sleeve Relief project to benefit Florida farmworkers from hazards such as exposure to weather, pesticides, thorns, snakes and bug bites. The St. Anastasia Girl Scouts are coordinating this Lenten project and will provide a collection box near the Lost & Found closet in the school's main building. The Long-Sleeve Relief and Food-Diaper-Personal Hygiene Drive will run during the Lenten season through March 31. Based on requests from agencies working for those living below the poverty line, the drive has been expanded to include short-sleeve cotton shirts, as well as nonperishable food, diaper and baby products and personal hygiene items. For a full list of items being collected, click here.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
