O Christmas Tree!

Christmas Banner

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! St. Anastasia Catholic School and John Carroll Catholic High School present their 4th annual Christmas Tree, Wreath and Poinsettia Sale on Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5. The sale will take place on Friday from 2-6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. at the St. Anastasia Pavilion.

For the fourth year, the schools are partnering to offer the community high-quality, fresh-cut Fraser fir trees and wreaths from North Carolina. The trees range in size from 5/6 feet ($45), 6/7 feet ($55), 7/8 feet ($65), 8/9 feet ($85) to 9/10 feet ($95). The Fraser fir wreaths are 24-inch, hand-decorated wreaths for $35.New this year, the sale will feature 3.5 quart, live Poinsettia plants for $15 - a perfect housewarming gift for the season. The event will not feature "pre-sales" like in previous years, so shoppers are encouraged to choose that special tree, hand-decorated wreath or poinsettia early!

See you at the 4th Annual Christmas Tree, Wreath and Poinsettia Sale!

Back to Basics Christmas Drive
St. Anastasia Catholic School & Church
Back to Basics Christmas Drive 2009

This year, our school is teaming up with the St. Anastasia Council of Catholic Women to help Notre Dame Mission, a local Catholic Church in Fort Pierce. We will be helping them provide local children with the basic needs of socks, underwear and sneakers (name brand not necessary). Due to the varied ages and sizes needed, we are suggesting that you purchase items in sizes your own child/children would wear.

If you are able to help, please turn in socks, underwear and/or sneakers to your child's homeroom no later than Friday, December 11th.

During these troubled times, we have families that are in need of just the basics. We truly hope that you can find it within your holiday budget to consider adopting one of these children.

Thank you for all your continue to do to enrich the lives of others this holiday season. God bless!

Dear Eighth Grade Students/Parents:
Just a friendly reminder that the John Carroll High School Placement Test is this Saturday, December 5th from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. It is strongly recommended that you pre-register for the test in order to secure a spot on the testing day. This also avoids any waiting prior to testing. November 30th was the last day to pay the $30 testing fee, after this date the fee increases to $40. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday morning. If there are any questions, please call the JC Guidance Office at 772-464-5200.

Fall Scholastic Book Fair -- THANKS!
To our fabulous book fair volunteers: Many Thanks!  Many Thanks! Many Thanks! Many Thanks!

Once again with your help and good cheer, we conducted a spectacular book fair at St. Anastasia Catholic School. With Scholastic Books providing a wonderful array of books, games, and other specialty items, and our many volunteers helping students, restocking displays, and working a variety of jobs, we finished our weekly fair with smiles and success. How wonderful to see students and adults excited about books and reading!!!

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of our fair and who continue to support our children in literacy and learning. We give thanks for our many blessings.

Sincerely, Mrs. Camber and the library staff

Big Apple Fundraiser for Alonzo Family
A Note from the Van Duzer Foundation:

Abby

As you may know, the Van Duzer Foundation was created to help St. Lucie County families and individuals who have suffered an unexpected crisis or tragedy to help them through the difficult times without additional financial hardship. The Van Duzer Foundation is a young, but a very active foundation and we've raised and distributed over $135,000 since our inception in May, 2008. Today, we have a special request for a very special young lady who lives in our community and needs our help.

Abby Alonzo is a lovely, talented young St. Anastasia student who loves her family, school and soccer. Right now, Abby is in a match with her strongest opponent so far, and it's not even taking place on the soccer field. Abby is battling Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma and, while she's a strong kid and a real fighter, she could use a little help and support from all of us.

On December 16th, we're going to make Christmas come a little early for Abby and her family. We've used our considerable connections to bring Santa and Mrs. Claus to the Big Apple Pizza and Pasta at 2311 S. 35th Street in Fort Pierce (right across from IRSC's Main Campus). All of us at Big Apple will be doubling as Santa's elves that evening and will be serving up slices, pies, subs, salads, wings and knots to help Abby and her family. One hundred percent of proceeds that evening will be given to Abby's family. In addition, we'll be helping you out, too, by taking care of all your holiday baking needs. We'll have oodles of yummy baked goods available to sell - and all the proceeds will help Abby's family through this emotional and financial crisis.

We'd love for you to come out and share in the celebration, which will include entertainment and a whole bunch of other surprises.

We know times are tight - it's hard for all of us right now just to make ends meet and keep things going for our own families. But we're convinced that the people in our community are the kindest, most generous people on the planet, and we know we'll all find a way to give a little and help Abby a lot. Thank you in advance for all you do already, and all you can do to help make this Christmas the best one ever for Abby and her family.
Gratefully yours,

Scott Van Duzer, Founder
The Van Duzer Foundation

St. Anastasia Church News
St. Anastasia Catholic Church is celebrating its
100th Birthday next year!

The St. Anastasia Catholic Church annual picnic this year will kick off the church's 100th Birthday - an historical event of enormous proportions. So, to celebrate this monumental event in a manner worthy of its numerical place in history, the church is having a super-duper outrageously fun picnic this year:

PICNIC UNDER THE STARS!
Saturday, January 23, 2010
5 to 9 p.m.
Tickets are still the same price:
Adults $12.50
Children $10
Free for children 3 & under

The Church wants the annual baking contest to rival the competition cake contests on the FOOD network. With a $100 grand prize, a gold medal and the winning birthday cake will be THE cake design that will be used for the Grand Reception with the Bishop on December 11, 2010. So, get your ideas together and create a 100th Birthday Celebration Cake. The sky's the limit as to your imagination.

Along with the Cake Contest, we are adding more INFLATABLE FUN including:
Giant Bungie Run, BMX Super Slide, Rockin Pirate Ship, Rock Climbing Wall, UFO Laser Tage Maze, Boulder Dash - Knock 'em off their pedestal, Jungle Xtreme Obstacle Course and Giant Chess

Plus: hot chocolate, face painting and the popular piņata smashing for the younger kid. Our Famous Grill Master -- Jeff Guettler -- will be at the grill again serving up the BEST BBQ this side of Dale's! The picnic will also feature music and the ever-popular egg toss with Fr. George (he thinks he's the best). Who among you is out to prove him wrong?? For more information, purchase your tickets or volunteer, call the Darlene Francis at the Church office at 461-2233. Volunteer hours may go towards service hours at St. Anastasia School.
Volunteer Information
It is the policy of the Diocese of Palm Beach and St. Anastasia Catholic School to complete a background and fingerprint check on any parent/grandparent who wishes to be a volunteer at the school or a chaperone on school field trips. The parent/grandparent must also attend a Protecting God's Children workshop before they may volunteer. Protecting God's Children is a workshop on child sexual abuse.

Parents/grandparents will not be approved to volunteer or chaperone until we have received the results of a fingerprint background check and we have verification of attendance at a Protecting God's Children workshop.  The background check is valid for 5 years. Many of our parents are now due to have an updated fingerprint background check. You will receive a letter from Mrs. MacAdie letting you know that it is time for an update.

Please call or send a note to the office if you would like to request a Volunteer Packet. The packet will be sent home with your child. If you have any questions, please call the school office.
