A Common Thread
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Walk for Cambridge! To date we raised more than $24,000! We'll have a full update in the June newsletter. In the meantime, read on to learn more about art projects, beards, muscle shirts and soccer. Danny Tao Executive Director |
Getting to the heART of it All
| | | Last fall, Joanna Stonesifer partnered with VCO to start a new program that combined her passion for arts & crafts and her desire to provide a space for kids to explore their own artistic interests. Thanks, Joanna!
What is the Arts & Crafts class? The Arts & Crafts class is for child in the Fresh Pond Apartments. Each Friday afternoon for an hour, the kids come to the community room and try their hands at a project along with us - such as painting or sculptures. Sometime there are specific crafts, and other times they have free run of the supplies. We try to keep the crafts accessible for a variety of ages. Why'd you decide to start this weekly activity? I had some previous experience interacting with the kids in the area in two different VCO programs, Game Nights and Soccer Nights, and really enjoyed spending time with the kids. I also enjoy doing art and thought I could combine these two interests. How can other people get involved or help support the program? Volunteers on Friday afternoons are welcome! All you need is to be present to the kids - no art skills or prior experience necessary. We encourage volunteers to try their hand at the crafts as well, so it feels more like we're doing crafts with the kids rather than supervising them. Or, if you can't make it Friday afternoons but have craft ideas or even supplies to donate, we'll take either! Would you like to help out at the Arts & Crafts classes? E-mail communityofferings@bostonvineyard.org.

"Hot Dog!" Thank you, Kevin Burtram
| | Many of you know Kevin Burtram, the man who looks like Jesus, loves free food, and who has spent the past two years leading Cambridge city youth in such programs as REACH, Project MOVE and Friday Nights at the V. Kevin's two years of AmeriCorps service will come to a close in June.
As her moves on to the next chapter of his life, his enigmatic presence and big personality will be greatly missed here at VCO. In his honor, please enjoy a haiku, written on his behalf:
Kev, oh bearded one your impact with youth outshines all your muscle T's
Thank you, Kevin, for your dedication to Cambridge youth and for all the smiles and laughs you bring to work each day.
