VCO Wins Community Award The Cambridge Police Department has named Vineyard Community Offerings (VCO) as the recipient of this year's Larry Burke Community Policing Award! The award is granted in recognition of VCO's engagement in the community to effect positive change through such programs as REACH and Soccer Nights. What an honor, especially as we gear up for our first annual 'Walk for Cambridge' event. Read on to learn more! Danny Tao Executive Director |
| Step into the Walk for Cambridge! | | Register today for VCO's first-ever Walk for Cambridge! This is a 5-mile walk to raise $100,000 and to increase awareness about VCO's youth programs, including Soccer Nights, REACH, Project MOVE and Storyboard. How can you help? Sign up to walk or volunteer as an individual. Or, start a team and have fun walking and making a difference in the lives of Cambridge youth with your work, school, small group or college friends. Can we reach our goal of $100,000? Yes, together we can - but we need your help! Each registrant is encouraged to meet a $250 minimum fundraising goal. Just think, if 200 people raise $500, that's $100,000 right there. Register online at www.firstgiving.com/communityofferings, download a registration form at www.bostonvineyard.org/walk, or pick up a form in the information kiosk outside the sanctuary. There is a small registration fee that includes the cost of a fair trade t-shirt produced by local Boston youth. Please mail all completed paper registration forms to: Greater Boston Vineyard | Attn: The Walk for Cambridge | 15 Notre Dame Ave | Cambridge, MA 02140 See you Saturday, May 15 as we rally together to support Cambridge city youth! Questions? Email us at walk@bostonvineyard.org. |
| Neighbors Join Together to Reach out to Families from Iraq | | On February 26, the Interfaith Women's Council (IFWC) hosted a welcome dinner for approximately 100 Iraqi refugees living in Greater Boston. The Islamic Center of Burlington graciously offered their facilities for the event free of charge, women in the community willingly prepared homemade Indian and Bengali food to serve the 175 people who attended the dinner, and VCO volunteers donated supplies and helped transport the Iraqi families from their current housing in Lowell, Mass. It was a unifying event and forum. The Iraqi families expressed their gratitude for the dinner as they spoke of the challenges they have faced upon arriving here, specifically finding employment and establishing a sense of community. If you would like to help any of these families from Iraq or if you would like to participate in other events hosted by the Interfaith Women's Council, please email stephanie@bostonvineyard.org. |
| Meet Christine, the Newest VCO Staffer | | What is your role at Vineyard Community Offerings?
I am in AmeriCorps serving as the program manager for VCO's Community Building Initiatives. My role this year involves organizing Family Game Nights, Community Potluck Dinners, Ladies' Nights, and Interfaith Women's Council events.
What are your hopes and dreams for this year?
My hope is to serve and to learn. I want to do whatever I can to help the people around me, and I'd like to learn from them along the way.
What's your favorite non-work activity?
Reading, hands-down (I'm currently reading Jane Eyre). I really enjoy spending time with friends, too.
What's one thing people might not know about you?
I am, sadly, the only girl in my family without red hair. |
