 Celebrating a Great Year!

It's hard to believe that 2009 is coming to a close. It's been a great year of blessing and expansion here at Vineyard Community Offerings (VCO).
 Celebrating a great year_December 09
Here are just a few highlights:
  • Soccer Nights grew from 98 kids in 2008, to more than 500 kids, three weeks and two sites
  • Over 250 volunteers participated in VCO programs and events
  • REACH graduated its first cohort in June and is currently at capacity with 30 students
  • We raised just over $25,000 during our fall kick-off

Here's hoping that you also had much to be thankful for this year.

Second Annual Iftar Dinner

Iftar_December 09

More than seventy people gathered together at the Rindge Towers on September 13 to participate in VCO's second annual Iftar dinner, a traditional dinner to break the month-long Ramadan fast. It was an evening of community, food and conversation, and a wonderful opportunity to build bridges between the Muslim and Christian communities.

"What a fun event to get to enjoy great food and participate in a meaningful part of our friends' culture." - Grace Schmelzer

Basketball Saturdays logoNew Youth Basketball Program!

VCO has launched Basketball Saturdays, a new youth basketball program in collaboration with the Gately Youth Center. The program provides skill & drills to 6th-8th graders the second Saturday of each month, from December 2009-March 2010. E-mail basketball@bostonvineyard.org if you would like to serve as a coach or volunteer, or if you would like to donate basketballs. The next program date is January 9, 2010.

Soccer Nights Volunteer BBQ

Soccer Nights BBQ_December 09

In mid-September, Soccer Nights volunteers reunited for an afternoon BBQ. The food-filled event was topped with an unexpected torrent of water from the lawn sprinklers! Our motto "We Need Each Other" took on a whole new meaning as we scrambled to cover the sprinklers, protect the food, and stay dry.

"It's great to see the friendships that have formed among the Soccer Nights volunteers. People have come together from such varied backgrounds and interests, gathering together around a love for soccer, community, and of course...grilltastic burgers." - Liz Bowen
